Hypnobirthing

Hello ladies,
I recently gave birth to my gorgeous little boy (first time mum!) using hypnobirthing techniques. I'd like to pass on my positive experience using these techniques during my 15hrs of labour, in which I only had gas and air to aid me. I'd highly recommend any parent-to-be who would like a positive and calming experience during pregnancy and labour consider hypnobirthing classes. My husband and I had private classes in the Katherine Graves Hypnobirthing provided by a local midwife. Not only did I feel relaxed and prepared for the big day, so did my husband. We felt extremely informed of our options prior to the birth and the atmosphere in the room during the birth was overall relaxed and calm. HIGHLY recommended. Grin

Thank you for sharing this. I'm quite interested and had started
To do some research. Sounds brilliant and it really worked for you! Congratulations too ☺️ x

Brilliant, I’m thinking of doing this also

LemonBee · 11/05/2018 08:10

I second this. Hypnobirthing was the best preparation I did

Claire90ftm · 11/05/2018 09:03

Thank you so much for this. I really want to try Hypnobirthing and so this is definitely what I want to hear =].

For another perspective, DH and I did private classes in the same method with a teacher who was also a midwife. We took it seriously and practised the techniques daily, yet I found it absolutely useless once I went into labour. It was for us a huge waste of time and money.

LemonBee · 11/05/2018 10:37

I must say that I found it most useful in the build up to labour. It relaxed me and I didn't feel anxious at all. It also taught me to be more assertive eg with medical staff once I was in labour and that was invaluable

Definitely look into it. It was well worth the money we paid for the lessons. You get lots of relaxation techniques, meditative & Hypno tracks, and positive, useful information to use in preparation for the big day. I was totally relaxed during the birth, which is unlike me as I am needle and hospital phobic!

Hypnobirthing was great for me, the breathing really helped and I had a very long labour - DS turned back to back and got stuck and even when I was being rushed into theatre for an emergency forceps delivery I was still calm and trying to refuse any pain relief!

I'm going to a free taster session in a fortnight so I will be interested to see how it goes! :)

southpacificgoat · 12/05/2018 00:17

Do you think I can get away with just reading the book or are classes absolutely essential? It's not just the money for me but the time... I am almost 31 weeks now and the nearest class to me is over a whole weekend when I am 36 weeks pregnant. DP would not be able to come with me as would need to look after DS. Just wondering how much I would be getting out of classes so close to the delivery date...? We can't afford private sessions. What do you think?

Mrstobe90 · 12/05/2018 01:23

I adored hypnobirthing. I had a 21 hour labour and because of the Katherine Graves hypnobirthing techniques taught to me by my midwife (and the book), it was so calm and positive! I had a bit of a wobble at one point but quickly brought myself back into my zone.

It was such an amazing experience and I'd recommend it to anyone! I suffer with anxiety so was worried about panicking during the labour/birth but I was completely chilled out :)

Helpful tip - bring headphones and listen to your hypnobirthing music through them to drown out the outside world :)

Mrstobe90 · 12/05/2018 01:24

@southpacificgoat I would definitely recommend the classes but if that's not an option, I'd suggest getting the book and the audio tapes. It's like a guided meditation.

Strokethefurrywall · 12/05/2018 01:51

I had a hypnobirth with DS1 and it was wonderful. All the techniques out of a book, I didn't have classes at all.

6 years on and it's still one of the most overwhelming and empowering experiences of my life. I felt like I could eat nails after it.

Congratulations OP!

I have booked a class but it is only 4 hrs - which seems very short! If anyone knows of any online videoes, classes or anything then please can you let me know?

Many thanks

JB86 · 12/05/2018 06:29

@southpacificgoat - classes were good as I got to ask the midwife info if unsure, but reading the book and listening to tracks, etc. would definitely be worth it. The book is very informative.

@Bumblealong1 - check out the Katherine Graves website. She sells her tracks and book. There is no reason why you couldn't continue to do it at home on your own. Our classes mounted to 10hours over 4 days but a lot of it I read in advance from the book after the first class.
