yes - it is foul, floradix tastes the "best" - errr least offensive but the thought makes my stomach churn still.....

ArcticRoll · 16/05/2007 19:25

Spatone sachets are less harsh on the stomach.

take it mixed with orange juice, after food.

it is sodium feredetate liquid. it says 'take 2 5ml spoonfuls 3 times a day' and that it contains 55mg elemental iron in 10 ml, but i was already taking 2 300mg tablets a day, so surely i was consuming more iron with the tablets anyway?

I would second floradix which I found I could take without any side effects (except the tell tale dark poo )

Gingerbear · 16/05/2007 19:32

No, the iron is in a different form in the liquid.
Try spatone or floradix instead.

Gingerbear · 16/05/2007 19:35

The iron in the liquid you are taking is more easily bioavailable than the tablets (ie your body can absorb more and less excreted as black poo)

ok thanks, the weird feeling has worn off now, so maybe its just entering my body, and i should sit down for 10 min after each dose

Oh, I was wondering about this this morning. I've been feeling a bit tired the last few days and am wondering about whether I should up my iron, but I take Viridian pregnancy vits several times a week so was worried about doubling up. Anyone know if I can safetly take a liquid supplement like Floradix along with a pregnancy multivit without overdosing? Or should it be one or the other?

I would consult your doctor Annie before self-diagnoising. I'm only saying this because I read an article by a haemotologist the other week about people taking iron when they didn't need it. Apparently it's really common and taking too much iron can produce the same symptoms than if you were lacking.
