figleaves? bravissimo?

so long as the bra fits well you can still go underwired

None of the good ones are particularly pretty I'm afraid. The best I found were Anita, who make a smooth cup bra which doesn't show under T shirts (although your breast pads will be another matter!). They also do some lacy ones but I didn't want those as they show through tops.

M&S are also quite good, and very good value. I got 2 bras for £25 which is about half the price of Anita.

Assuming you're not talking about nursing bras but just non-wired ones for pregnancy, Marks do some really good, cheap ones and loads of choice.

I bought two cotton padded t-shirt bras (and they look like normal ones) in hot pink and nude (also came in white, black, lemon and pale blue I think) for £10, and they're £6 each singly. There were plenty of other sorts, too.

I was quite small pre-pregnancy (31 weeks) so I loved my wispy underwear - support stuff has come as a real shock! But the M&S ones are, if not exactly glam, at least normal. And cheap so I don't resent it as much.

I'd say don't bother with maternity bras. I posted something a while ago here and some people advised not to bother with them - as long as your underwired ones properly fit, they should be fine. That's what I've done - just bought two pretty underwired bras in a bigger size. Recommend Freya as a good make for bigger boobs - think they also do a nursing version.

God, men don't realise how lucky they are not having to spend all this extra dosh during pregnancy!

rofl!

Imawurzel · 17/05/2007 10:11

I'm normally a 36dd, i'm 8weeks today, i have nearly outgrown my bras already!! Does it matter if they are underwired?
I don't really want to spend a fortune, i normally pay £25 ish for 1. Got no cash at the moment to go buy new ones so have got to make do. Might go on ebay and have a squiz.

sarahrose · 17/05/2007 10:14

I went for a fitting in Bravissimo at the end of last week. They have a new shop near oxford street and its walk in oppose to booking appointments. It is a free service and one that I would strongly reccomend. The advice I was given was that you could still where underwires but only if they fit properly. I bought one for £25 and now that I know my size I can buy them from anywhere. I was advised to come back in 8 weeks just to make sure that the bra still fits.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/05/2007 10:14

believe it or not mothercare have some nice ones.
nice pink one

and blue

of course my stomach didn't look likt that in mine....

Imawurzel · 17/05/2007 10:16

They dont look too bad.
I dont get soft cup ones, cos i dont like people seeing im cold
my uniform is a t-shirt and black trousers, do have a black fleece but sometimes its too hot.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/05/2007 10:56

I got one from mothercare a few months ago that is very, erm, thick. no one can look at me and know when it's nipply out!

it's a nice one too. brown and pink.

MrsBadger · 17/05/2007 11:07

My personal view sod maternity bras and wear normal ones that fit properly for as long as possible.
I have a cleavage for the first time in god knows how many years and am buggered if I'm going to strap it down with a depressing saggy white cotton thing - plenty of time for that when the nursing bras come out .

black satin today

MrsApron · 17/05/2007 11:09

Mrs Badger anita do fabulous underwired bf bras. I totally recomend them. it avoid the frump feeling completely.

MrsBadger · 17/05/2007 11:11

will consult them when the time comes, MrsA - thanks for the tip...

becklespeckledfrog · 17/05/2007 12:06

I just bought the same ones I usually wear from Next but in a bigger size! They are underwired and am loving the bigger cleavage at the mo! I know (from past experience) that in a couple of months they will expand again and then I will get some maternity ones

beckmo · 17/05/2007 12:33

If you are looking for maternity not nursing and are near a Bravissimo...go there! It's great and they fit you properly.

I was a 30E and now a 36f (37 weeks) and found the only option was sports bras when I wanted to be comfortable in the day(they grow with you and give you support) and Freya when I wanted to feel nice.Wires are fine as long as they don't touch the breast tissue (get fitted) Unlike some of the posters here I found M&S to be the worst -their maternity bras offer no support and I kept falling out of them....Their soft cup bras just gave me one massive boob!
