Booking appointment - how soon?

Had a positive result on Monday morning and my period is due today (so currently missed, as it's nowhere to be seen).

How soon should I contact the Dr's to arrange my first midwife appointment? I was thinking Monday, as I'm going away for the weekend. Is that too soon?

I think I'm overly worrying and worried as I've been a bit crampy and "heavy" if that makes sense. Doesn't feel real yet to be honest and don't know where to start!

No harm calling your doctor's and starting the process. The appointment probably won't be until 8-10 weeks.

Going by the NHS due date calculator, I'm 3.5 weeks.

The receptionist should book you in for an appointment at the appropriate time I’d imagine. So it’s not really possible to have your booking appointment too early. Congratulations!

hammeringinmyhead · 09/05/2018 13:21

You don't get yours until 8-10 weeks here and then it can be up to 4 weeks before your scan. It's quite a boring wait!

hammeringinmyhead · 09/05/2018 13:22

You may as well ring though and get a date sorted.

PotteringAlong · 09/05/2018 13:22

I agree. Get into the system but they will make the appointment for when you are between 8-10 weeks

Nogodsnomasters · 09/05/2018 13:24

By the time your period is missed your counted at 4 weeks pregnant. When I had my ds I got my bfp on a frid night when I was 4 days late, called gp on the Monday and was saw on Tues morning to get the ball rolling. My booking in appointment was the same day as my 1st scan at 12+2 but that's northern Ireland.

ruthieruthuk · 09/05/2018 13:36

I was told I could see my midwife from 8 wks so have booked in for a few weeks

AJ89 · 09/05/2018 18:17

I had mine at 5+5. My GP surgery have a huge poster in the waiting room telling you to book as soon as possible.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 09/05/2018 19:29

Completely depends on your NHS trust - mine was 6 weeks.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 09/05/2018 19:43

I phoned up around 5 or 6 weeks and was given an appointment for 10 weeks. I think it's best to phone up sooner rather than later as maternity services can be quite stretched. The receptionist will make sure you're booked in at an appropriate time if you tell them how far along you are.

emwithme · 09/05/2018 20:06

I had mine at 8 weeks. Booked it the day after my BFP because I wanted a particular day/time to fit in with holiday.

m4rdybum · 09/05/2018 21:12

Thank you everyone - I'll ring on Monday.

I'm just so worried about the cramping and Googling way too much Sad

Cramping is completely normal. Your uterus is increasing in size rapidly - in percentage terms I’m sure it increases more in the first 10 weeks than at any other point. It’s stretching, and that can be painful!

Step away from google. You may have a miscarriage, you may not, but google will tell you bugger all so stop tormenting yourself.

GottaBeStrong · 10/05/2018 09:32

I had terrible cramps in the first trimester. It literally felt as if I was having my period but without the blood. Implantation and the uterus increasing in size and everything stretching can be quite painful.

I had an appointment with the midwife at 6 weeks for a chat as I am high risk and on meds that can affect baby's growth so was more for reassurance about staying on my meds than anything. My actual booking appointment was at 9 weeks.
