Hello everyone....

Pregnant with baby number 1.....been trying to keep a positive outlook and not do too much panicking lol but still dont want anyone to know (apart from my mum who I will be telling this weekend) until past the 12 weeks scan.

With that in mind....any tips on keeping it secret when you feel super nauseaus and cant keep your eyes open past 2pm. I am really really struggling to be at all productive at work.

I get the 2pm crash as well. From
My experience you just have to ride it out, it will only be a few more weeks (easier said than done!).
I’m 6+2 and feel ok now but had 3 hours of nausea this morning. I’m sure it will ramp up over the next couple of weeks!

Laurakasia23 · 08/05/2018 11:43

Hey, first of all congratulations!!
I’m pregnant with my 2nd child, roughly 9weeks and really struggling with the nausea. I tend to find eating little but often can help and sips of water for especially when I’m at work.
As for the tiredness just try getting a few extra hours a night, I’ve been going to bed at 7, 12 hours sleep is working rather well for me!

Firsttimemama84 · 08/05/2018 15:46

Thanks all.....earlier to bed might be an idea....I found the long weekend so much easier as Id do something then nap do something else have a nap!! Work Im obviously expected to be switched on but as well as tired I feel chaotic, scatty and forgetful.....anyone else feeling that too?

Im finding the nausea goes whilst i eat and if I suck mints....

Congrats to you both too xx

Congrats. Massively sympathise - I have been tired and nauseous for weeks and it hit me hard around the 6 week mark as well. I found regular nibbling of savoury things like dry roasted nuts or crackers with cheese helped a little. Also the wristbands (acupressure ones for travel sickness) did seem to take the edge off a bit for me. And sipping fizzy water (no idea why - seems like it would be a bad idea). Just follow your appetite and don’t stress too much about eating some unhealthy things. I craved crisps so I just bought small packs to try to at least limit portion size and that seemed to work for me. I’m now 11 weeks and I think I’m starting to feel more human again, but I’m not fully there yet. Go easy on yourself, rest when you can and have a good cry sometimes - it may not be the worst thing in the world, but it really is quite hard and it’s ok to struggle with it.

Tiredness does make my nausea worse so trying to get extra sleep is a good plan. Is it possible to do any work from home? Or take the odd day off the next few weeks to ease the pressure for yourself? I know it is easy to say but the chances are that you will feel better in a matter of weeks.

Also, in case you are panicking like I was that this is bound to get way worse over time, try not to worry too much about that. I would say the tiredness did probably peak around 9/10 weeks but my fears of this exponential rise in the sick feeling didn’t materialise - I felt at a pretty stable level of rubbishness for a few weeks, which I wish I had known at the outset.

Hang in there and remember you’re not alone x

Firsttimemama84 · 08/05/2018 16:46

Thanks @tryingtostayrational. Really good tips....interestingly if I eat sweets or chocolate I feel terrible crisps and cheese or marmite on toast alright lol....I was having a chat with my very very tiny baby the other day (probably sounds entirely crazy!!) About how it might be very good for me if it stops my sugar addiction!!!

That is reassuring that things are going to suddenly get worse and worse neccessarily!!

11 weeks I cant wait for that point....have you got your scan date yet??

OP posts:
TryingToStayRational · 08/05/2018 17:23

@Firsttimemama84 I’ve gone right off chocolate and most sweet things too - it’s v unlike me! I’ve had a few scans already because we had IVF, and my 12 week scan is next week. I know it sometimes feels like time is standing still when you feel rubbish, so I hope time goes as quickly as possible for you and the nicer weather helps you feel a little bit better too xx

Firsttimemama84 · 08/05/2018 18:02

Ah thats nice that youve had a few scans already....hope alls looking good. Im just waiting it out for the scan still no date 😥 I have 4 weeks until a weeks hol and then when I get back I am very near to the 12 week scan trying count weeks not minutes 😂😂

Congratulations @Firsttimemama84! I am very similar dates to you, somewhere between 6 and 7 weeks. This is my second and nausea has shown up the past week so I feel your pain!

@TryingToStayRational had some wonderful tips (especially the acupressure bands, I must find mine). Fizzy water was a saviour in my first and has been just as popular this time round. If you feel up to it eating before you get out of bed tends to help - ginger biscuits do if no one is available to make you toast!

And definitely rest / sleep more if you can. With my first I often went to bed at 7 and woke up at 7 and on those days I noticed the nausea was better.

RowenaDedalus · 08/05/2018 20:21

Just eat whatever you think you can. Full sugar Coke helped me (although not much due to the caffeine). And naps.

Firsttimemama84 · 09/05/2018 08:48

Thanks all.....this morning is the worst....late for work again....struggling through breakfast because I am starving but also feeling very very sick!!! Ugh.....hope you have all had better starts to the day x

I'm just coming up to 7 weeks and the nausea kicked in over the weekend, it's far worse than the first time, I'm feeling ill for the whole day and struggling with eating and drinking, can't wait to be past this stage :)
I'm going to try mints and travel sickness wrist band like I saw mentioned above.

Firsttimemama84 · 09/05/2018 10:24

I find mints really help me....@futuredays....suspect Im eating an unhealthy amount!!! Im 6+5 so not far off you and today its been like a wave...🤢🤢🤢 I felt so ill this morning I just wanted it to stop and then felt terrible as I obviously want the baby so much 😍

@Firsttimemama84 mines has been the worst kept secret ever at work!

Been caught by HR barfing my head off in the toilet. Then one day I was just sitting still trying to breath through the boke when my boss came through, laughing, and said... "anything you're wanting to share?" Haha!

It's been impossible! I'm, thankfully, at 12+1 now and plan on telling everyone next week after my first scan.

But seriously I don't have any advice for keeping it quiet as I've been USELESS! Haha!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Olive1988 · 09/05/2018 10:45

Hello and congratulations! I'm 24 weeks. I had nausea from about 4/5 weeks (first sign I was pregnant) to 12 weeks. I also was super super tired. Semester 2 is so much nicer so keep going. I found eating dry crackers and carby food helped. Regarding the tiredness I had the caffeine I was allowed just after lunch time get me through the afternoon, then got home had dinner, bath and straight to bed xxx keep going and I hope things get easier xxx

RowenaDedalus · 09/05/2018 11:05

I didn't manage to keep it secret either. Too much vomiting at work. I recall making a slice of white toast in the morning and forcing it down even though every bite was a struggle. I also remember my friend telling me that she felt better by 14 weeks and I cried myself to sleep because that was another 7 weeks to feel so bad. Ha. Such a gross stage of life

Firsttimemama84 · 09/05/2018 11:17

I think Im just about managing to hide it so far but we all work remotely so not always sitting at a desk with someone watching. Just ate salt and vinger crips nausea stopped for the whole 15mins of chomping back now.....time for more crisps??

Luckily Hmm I've had a horrible virus for months that I can't shake off so I'll just pass it off as probably the virus again

Firsttimemama84 · 09/05/2018 18:04

@futuredays Ive been using my IBS as an excuse....the nausea seems to have lifted a bit and have eaten 2 slices of toasts and cheese and a spoon of nutella....toast fine nutella made me nauseas again....need to remember this little bean doesnt like sweet things!!!

OP posts:
FutureDays · 09/05/2018 22:51

Oh that's good, mine went for a bit today but has hit me again this evening, bland food for me I think until it all passes.

Firsttimemama84 · 10/05/2018 07:00

I dont seeem to feel as ill this morning which is of course freaking me out a bit 😥 I kind of think whatver happens for the next 9 months Im either going to be freaking out or feeling ill!!!

OP posts:
FutureDays · 10/05/2018 08:00

Haha yes that happened to me last time, I'd gotten used to the being sick and when I started feeling better more often it was a bit disconcerting
