Just can't sleep, I know I should be resting life is about to get very busy with a 4yr old a 2ye old and newborn twins but I can't! Sitting here wondering if my hospital bag has anything useful in as it's been packed and in the car for well over a month! I had a sweep on Friday and midwife said she could stretch to 4cms and get right round baby's head and I have been loosing my plug ever since so hopefully the induction won't take forever but you never know.
Any wise words ladies?

Ooh I love a birth thread!

Hope you are in the throws of Labour.

BuffyFan · 07/05/2018 20:35

Good luck OP! I was induced at 37+2 as well. My b/g twins are now 2 and a half, and they have a brother 4 years older. They're hysterical, exhausting, and adorable in equal measures.

WishUponAStar88 · 07/05/2018 20:38

Sorry my update took so long! I wrote this for a bump group I am on so thought I'd add it here too.

Came back from my tea (which was my last update I believe) put on a big monitor with 3 straps holding 3 Doppler type things, one for baby 1, one for baby 2 and one for measuring contractions. I was already dialating and having irregular contractions so plan was on this for 20mins, then they break my waters with an unsophisticated looking plastic hook and I could move around lots. Ended up being on the machine for ages as twin2 kept escaping the monitor leaving gaps in the data, they put a clip on twin1s head to help monitor and got enough data eventually. She then broke my waters (not painful but her hand up there to move the hook thing wasn't comfortable) then stood up and paced slightly while having contractions, asked for Gas and Air, got it and went into the zone. DP moved a big chair and he kneeled on the seat while I leaned over the back holding his hand and pushing. DS was born an hour or so later. All good. DP more or less stayed where he was and we carried on this time with him holding DS in one hand and mine in the other. It was clear though that Twin2 wasn't moving down like she should. They broke my 2nd waters but now the monitor showed her heart rate going down during the contractions. A Doc came in, examined me on my back, attempted a manual extraction (unsophisticated hand/arm in and grab baby! - bare in mind I had just given birth to one so there was "room"). She confirmed twin2 was breach but they were less worried about that than the heart rate, the heart rate got worse as the Doc pulled. Then it was straight next door to theatre for emergency c section. I was given a general anaesthestic, DP had to do all the permissions, I remember being relieved that the pain would stop and they were helping my baby. DD was born 15mins later. Poor DP had to wait in a room with DS, when we talked to the anesthatist about this later he said that a catagory 1 c section like this was pretty brutal and no time for niceties so best that partners don't watch, plus DP was the best person to look after DS. DD needed "a bit of resus" when born, but this took place in theatre and all her levels went up meaning she didn't need special baby care of any kind. My first memories are coming round holding DD and DP holding DS. Turns out DD had a very short cord, something that would have been easier to spot on a singleton scan much harder with 2 packed in there. This meant as she tried to head for the exit she was pulling the placenta away hence the lowering heart rate. As is common with twins the placentas had also fused so this was an enormous placenta and therefore it being ripped away caused a massive amount of blood loss for me. But all's well that ends well they gave me 2 units of blood straight away and another 2 a few days later. I had excellent care and even though it was against normal policy they gave DP a campbed in my room which made a big difference.
Now we are home, getting the breastfeeding established and sorting a little bit of normality. I still have lots of drugs to take but feel myself getting better slowly. I am finding out a lot about post c section recovery which I didn't know and have been chatting to the Mumsnet faithful for advice!
