Baby transverse lay

I'm almost 29 weeks and baby is transverse lay. I am so so so uncomfortable tonight. I also have SPD. She has been laid like this for weeks and weeks. I can barley bend over or lean certain ways and i can feel her in my left hip. DD1 was breach but i don't recall it being uncomfortable. Anyone the same? Or when did your baby turn if so?

Have you had a look at the spinning babies website? Might be helpful...

LisaSimpsonsbff · 05/05/2018 20:40

I hadn't realised it was my baby's transverse position that was making me uncomfy, but when he turned (at 29 weeks) my sciatica disappeared overnight! If was so weird, I woke up with almost no pain after weeks of it, and a completely differently shaped bump

fempsych · 05/05/2018 20:41

I've had my baby now. Was transverse all the way through! Very uncomfortable at times....

Bubblysqueak · 05/05/2018 20:42

Both of mine were transverse. Ds1 turned at 35+6 and ds2 turned at 34 weeks.
I knew both times as I have never been so sick (they pushed the contents of my stomach out as they turned!)
I did lots if bouncing on my birthing ball and sat on a backwards chair lots (so t know if it helped or not!)

LunaTrap · 05/05/2018 20:44

My second baby was transverse, it was so painful! They actually booked me in for a CS but she turned just before 38 weeks so it was cancelled.

SamanthaH92 · 05/05/2018 20:49

I am having a CS again anyways so I'm not worried about that (as far as me and the consultant have decided atm). Its just very uncomfortable. Did anything work for you when you tried to turn them ladies? Thanks for replys x

I’m 37 weeks and baby is transverse, I have to stay in hospital on Monday until I give birth if he hasn’t turned (they tried to get me to stay in last week). If you go into labour it’s classed as an emergency (so get your bum up in the air and dial 999) so they usually want you to stay in. 29 weeks they have LOADS of time to move though

SamanthaH92 · 05/05/2018 21:21

Is that why they are keeping you in? Incase you go in to labour? I didn't know that thank you. They said at my apppintment on thursday they aren't worried she is layed that way for the moment x

Urgh. Mine is spending a LOT of time transverse and it’s SO damn uncomfortable even at 24 weeks. I hear you!

There’s no evidence the spinning babies stuff works (according to a Cochrane review) but it can’t hurt.

I would never consent to an ECV so I’m kind of hoping mine gets in position in the next month or so.

SamanthaH92 · 05/05/2018 21:26

Evc? Where they turn the baby? I was told by my consultant last time that there isn't a good chance they work anyways. So she said it was just a waste of time for my last breach baby. I hope shes not to comfy and turns to a different position soon lol x

mine was transverse lie until 36 weeks. SHe turned when I was driving home at 70mph down the motorway. A whole new level of discomfort.

CodLiverOil556 · 05/05/2018 21:34

My DD was transverse which was discovered at 36 weeks...Little bugger stayed that way until the end. I went for an ECV and that didn't work and hurt like a sod. She turned on the day of my CS at 39 weeks so they popped my water to start me off but she turned back to transverse so they whipped her out via CS.

I remember how bloody painful everything was especially when she stretched out and my bump looked like a diamond shape

burblife · 05/05/2018 21:40

Mine was transverse for most of pregnancy. Lots of back pain and spd. Midwife told me she had turned ready for birth at 36 weeks but she was born breech at 38 weeks. She had turned the other way up Confused

Good luck!

SamanthaH92 · 05/05/2018 21:42

I'm now slightly panicking after some googling lol! Oh wanted to DTD tonight but now i am to scared to incase something happens. Shes kicking and wriggling around which is fairly uncomfortable. Her legs and feet are resting on my bladder. I have a almost 2 year old so don't really want to be admitted to hospital early, especially if its a 3 week wait. Oh gosh, must of been very comfy then laid that way if they turned back x

I'm also now slightly more concerned because i am on daily aspirin to thin my blood for the baby x

Mine is now engaging in some sort of foetal disco 🤢

OlderMumToBe2018 · 06/05/2018 03:21

I had a transverse lie pregnancy. Spent a lot of time in the swimming pool after having to take early maternity leave due to spd and excruciating rib flare. Baby turned, and was a back to back labour. It was my first pregnancy and I feel the midwives didn't take my pain levels seriously, assuming I was naive. It was traumatic, active labour for 3 days, and protracted 2nd stage. I think if it had been managed better then the issues wouldn't have been as severe. My notes had been marked to say I'd had Cs at some point, because I kept being asked about it. It ended up being a ventouse delivery.

Shanster · 06/05/2018 03:31

All 3 of my babies were transverse - the 1st turned at 37 weeks, the second at 39 weeks (the day before a scheduled c-section which was then csncelled) and the third was flipping all over the place at 39 weeks. I was brought in for scheduled c-section, but he turned so they decided to induce me. The fire they could start the induction he turned again, so they sent me home and two days later I went in for a section due to unstable lie. 3rd was the most uncomfortable towards the end!!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 06/05/2018 04:45

Ds2 was transverse. He didn't turn and so I was admitted to.hospital at 37 weeks as if I'd gone into labour he could have died within minutes. I had a cs at 39 weeks and he was fine.

Your baby has got loads of time to turn though so please don't worry too much about it.

Bear2014 · 06/05/2018 05:16

As a couple of PP, my DD was transverse throughout. I was admitted at 37 weeks and had a CS at 39+4. Would have been earlier but 39 was New Years Eve GrinIt was mega uncomfortable in the ribs and I had heartburn that was just unreal but otherwise everything was fine.

At 29 weeks I wouldn't worry at all it's so early. Re-visit at 34 weeks or so. Most transverse babies turn, could turn to breech but at least you'll avoid being admitted. Good luck!

Homebird8 · 06/05/2018 05:17

I had an unstable lie with DS1. A lot of the time he was transverse but could be head or bottom down too. The only way I knew at any one time was where I could feel his hiccups. Only the head end hits, not the bottom!

He was fully mobile and turning even at full term. I went to the hospital for an ECV the day before (39+6) only to find he was head down. Came home the following day with instructions to call the midwife the moment I thought I might be in labour to establish position as transverse is so dangerous.

They honestly didn’t believe me when I said I could see him turn somersaults inside me. There were little feet sticking out that were pushing him round all the time! Apparently once head down at 40weeks they stay there. This boy hadn’t read the text books!

In the end after playing somersaults for another week he was head down when I went into labour and I gave birth as planned at home.

My sympathy for the awkwardness of the your baby’s position Samantha. Not comfortable for you. Hope you get some sleep and don’t end up in hospital before you are ready.

SamanthaH92 · 06/05/2018 19:26

Thanks for all your replys ladies. I hope so does turn even if its to another breech position. Very very uncomfortable today and the heat does not help lol xx

Totally sympathise as my second was an August born, it's the worst time to be heavily pregnant. This time next year it will all be a distant memory Smile

SamanthaH92 · 06/05/2018 21:35

I don't remember it been this hot last year or the year before when i was pregnant with DD1. I read that playing music to your bump would get them to move but that hasn't worked. We were at a bbq earlier and i thought she had moved positions but she just tricked me lol. Its ment to be even hotter tomorrow so decided to stay home with the fan xx

Pretty sure they are still in the same position!

I'm in such a panic about it, Terrified of going into labour!

No advice but just wanted to show some support!
