Hi

I’ve name changed for this as it’s reallt embarrassing.

I’m about 25 weeks pregnant with twins and I have absolutely terribly piles. I’ve been to the doctors twice in the last 10 days and been given 2 different creams, one is anusol HC and one is scheriproct (or something like that). Neither has made a difference, I’m in a huge amount of pain and I can see (tmi, so sorry) about 8 lumps when I have a look with a mirror. They are purple, hard and very very sore. The doctors don’t seem to think they can help in any other way and I don’t know what to do. I can barely sleep from the pain and I can hardly sit down.

Has anyone been in the same position and found anything to help? I’ve been doing regular hot baths, ice packs and applying cream. I’ve been in the most recent cream for 3 days.

Please please any help gratefully received!

Continue what you are doing and be religious about it.

Also buy some witch hazel and soak cotton wool in it. Use these to wipe when you go to the loo.

Use the cream and ice 3-4 times daily.

You can also buy tablet suppositories. Germaloids sell a suppository verson of the cream. Everything helps!

Unfortunately I think it's true, there isn't much the doctor can do to help while you are still pregnant.

Flowers OP. I've been there. At 37 weeks had to take nearly a week of work. I also found the creams pretty useless although the xyloproct is supposed to be better. I tried the bath and hot/ cold and I actually wondered if that made it worse. It only started to get better when it started bleeding. I also went to the GP a few times, he said I could try going to the hospital for them to do something surgical but that they almost certainly wouldn't as I was pregnant. I now eat bran flakes pretty much every morning Wink

So the other week I got one and honestly, it was the worst. I put anusol on LOTS, and it just didn’t budge. I kept putting it on after every time on the toilet but nay - anyway my stupid dog decided to rip it up, mostly because he’s a bastard, and I decided I’d put some Burts bees baby diaper ointment (it’s like £5.99 from amazon) until my new anusol arrived.... and it almost disappeared over night! Didn’t go completely for another couple of days but it was amazing. I believe it’s the zinc oxide in such a high dose that does the job (according to google after I was wondering why it was so brilliant for it).

Anyways! Hope it helps

I feel for you. I had bad piles after childbirth and they were so painful. I was worried they'd never go but they went in a week. Here's what worked for me:

  • a diet very high in fibre, next to no sugar or caffeine, lots of water
  • anusol lots of times a day
  • lactulose so you never have to strain
  • no wiping, instead apply a red hot flannel after each time you go
  • hot baths
  • lie down as much as possible

Hope they calm down for you. Best of luck with the pregnancy.

High fibre foods:
pear, banana, oats, dried fruit, nuts, fresh fruit and veg, brown rice and pasta.
I snacked on flapjack and oatcakes.

Don't be embarrassed. I suffered with Dc3 to the point I was in tears for the entire last week of my pregnancy. The best thing I found was to keep (gently) poking them back up and use cream and suppositories, anything I could get my hands on. With dcs 4 & 5 I started poking them back up as soon as I felt them starting to return and they didn't get nearly as bad (i.e. No sleepless nights sobbing) plus don't get constipated. I really feel for you OP it is awful.

Also I would try yellow metanium. Would check if you are ok to use it while pregnant though as I don't know. Flowers

Thanks so much everyone, really appreciate the suggestions and support. I also have a 12 month little girl, so lying down isn’t much of an option right now, but I’m trying to rest where I can. I’m on movicol for constipation, which hopefully will help stop getting anymore. Has anyone found the cream actually works whilst pregnant, or do you just have to put up with it? The GP did mention that she thought they were thrombosed and to talk to my antenatal consultant about seeing the surgical team, but as someone has stated above, I’m not sure they’d do anything whilst pregnant. Just concerned I have another 11-12 weeks to go before the babies will be delivered and I’m not sure I can cope with this pain!
