Hi all

I am 11 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from severe morning sickness from week 5. To give you some idea, I have 24/7 nausea and throwing up almost 20 times a day! Anyone in the same boat and would like to share their stories so I know i am not the only one Smile

Head over to the Hyperemesis support threads - 20 times a day isn't typical morning sickness!

Have you seen your GP? There are meds which can be presribed to help control it.

rav88 · 03/05/2018 13:05

Thanks for pointing out the correct thread to me ! I have infact seen my GP and she has given me meds but I have had issues keeping the medication in my system due to the throw ups. To be fair, the throwing up has got slightly better since last week but all other symptoms are still there!

Just looking for people with similar experiences Smile

What meds are you on? There's quite a range and if you're still not keeping them down then you need something better.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/05/2018 13:18

p.s. I'm 16 weeks and going through this for the second time and it's bloody awful. I was signed off work for about 7 weeks, back now but still not full strength and still on meds to control the hyperemesis.

Im also 11 weeks and had sickness from week 5! Although I’m not sick 20 times a day I am sick ALOT! Sometimes it can just be bile and then other times it’s eeveything I’ve eaten, I had 2 weeks off work, then a week off on holiday and I’ve just came back to work this week but today I have went home after an hours work, my Work have been fantastic with me but the stress off letting them down really gets to me and a think that can play on my sickness! I’ve tried the doctors tablets, they work to a certain extent, but not fully. I’m shattered 247 and feel like a hangover 247!. When is your baby due??

rav88 · 03/05/2018 16:15

Statisticallychanged - I am on Cyclixine. I have tried not to take them as much as possible which is probably why I am still so sick but i constantly feel that I am doing harm to the baby by taking them. I know its silly because the doctors would have never prescribed them to me if they were not ! 7 weeks off work sounds horrible and sorry to hear it has continued into week 16, I was hoping that mine eases up by week 12-13, which is what my midwife said should happen (fingers crossed)

Alenarea89 - Your and my case sounds very similar. I was off work for 2 weeks then on holiday for a week, now I am back to work but still feeling very very nauseous. I agree, the 24/7 nausea sucks !! Its like you cant enjoy anything about your pregnancy because you are constantly feeling sick ! I hope its gets better for both of us in a few weeks. I am due 21 Nov, how about you?

Omg that’s really weird how similar we are! Shows you how common this morning sickness can be, have you tried a refresher bar? You know the Wee cheap sweets, there quite good for sucking on when feeling sick, so much better than ginger biscuits, I can’t face looking at them.
The sickness does take the shine away from the pregnancy, I agree, is this your first? I’m due 20th November although my scan is next Friday for a more accurate time!
Is Work being ok with you?

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/05/2018 16:43

OK, first up - take your meds woman Grin!! Seriously - the doctor will not prescribe anything unsafe but what is unsafe for your health is you being incredibly sick, possibly getting dehydrated and so on. My DD is now 7, and is completely unharmed by the anti sickness meds I took whilst pregnant (which included Cyclizine btw)

Try getting the full dose of cyclizine but it's worth being aware that it's basically the first option they will try and there are many other meds which can be taken either alone or alongside it which might work better for you. It's taken 4 to find one which is working fairly well for me.

Unfortunately, for some women it doesn't go after the first trimester so it's worth trying to get on top of it.

Amalfimamma · 03/05/2018 16:47

I suffered with all my pregnancies and the only thing that helped with gingernut bisciusts.

rav88 · 03/05/2018 17:23

Alenares89: oh wow, we have synced haha I never liked ginger biscuits and even now they are doing me no good. I will try out the cheap sweets and see if they help me. What are refresher bars btw?

Amalfimama: Wow, that must be exhausting if you suffered with all your pregnancies ! How many kids do you have?

OP posts:
rav88 · 03/05/2018 17:27

StatisticallyChallenged: Its reassuring to hear that there were no side effects with your pregnancy ! I think you are right, I should just take the full dosage and not fret about it much. Pregnancy can be an anxious time and every little thing makes you nervous !

Amalfimamma · 03/05/2018 17:30

@rav88 I have 2 kids but 7 pregnancies. I tried everything and only with my youngest found that gingernut worked for me. It's horrible and exhausting not toention the damage it does to your windpipe and teeth.

I've read you don't like gingernut. Have you tried flat coke and crackers? The midwife suggested that as I didn't want to take the plasil antinausea tablets

rav88 · 03/05/2018 17:33

@Amalfimamma I did try coke and crackers but it feels like at the moment none of the usual tricks work for me. Weirdly enough though, since last week I am able to keep a few fruits and granola down without throwing up. Guess thats something ! At least its healthy ! I cant even take the multi vit tablets as they may be sick too Confused

Amalfimamma · 03/05/2018 17:37

@rav88 I'd say if it continues after 12 weeks to ask the doctor for antinausea medicine. There are some homeopathic options available too.

rav88 · 03/05/2018 17:40

@Amalfimamma I will keep the homeopathic option in mind. I am currently on Cyclyzine but I think I am going to start taking the full dosage instead of taking them just on really bad days. See if that helps me !

Alanares89 · 03/05/2018 17:42

That’s a refreshers bar! A neighbour told me about it, you end up getting to the point we’re you will literally try anything! But it’s a better taste than the ginger!

@Alanares89 Ah thanks. I will look for them and let you know if they helped Smile
