micralite pushchair

I have recently purchased a micralite pushchair. I was just going to buy the car seat oppose to the carrycot to make it more accessible for public transport. Has anybody else done this? or am I being irresponsible for not allowing my baby to lay flat for the 1st 6 months?

If you will be using the car seat on the chassis for short journeys only it may be okay, but really the lo will be much comfier laid flat for any signficant time...

Why would the carseat make it better for public transport? So you can take it off and fold the chassis and carry the baby asleep in the seat? (NB have you practised to see if you can do this by yourself ?)

I can see how that might be handy occasionally (esp if it's a carseat that you can use in your car as well), but the recommendation is that tiny babies spend no longer than 1.5hrs at a time in a carseat, so less good for long days out.

TBH unless you're getting on rush-hour London buses the Micralite has such a small footprint you'll probably be ok with it unfolded.

no not at all my dd have travel system i found it easier while she was small gettin on off buses as you can pop the carseat on bus fold up buggy get on i found it easier personally, your baby doesnt need to be flat your baby prob pefers culing up after 9months like it its more comforting!

I would say go for the carry cot and not the car seat.

I have the micralite and found the car seat a NIGHTMARE to get on an off. The carrycot on the other hand is a breeze to attach. Although I think they have changed the car seat attachment system so maybe the new one is better.

I rarely had to collapse the carrycot on public transport as the whole thing is still extremely compact, even with the carrycot attached. However if you do have to, it is just the right size to fit in the well between tube/train seats or in the luggage space on a bus.

I adored the carrycot - it was so useful, we used it as a travel cot for the first 4 months, and it enabled DS to sleep comfortably in restaurants/at friends etc.

babies do need to be lying flat. get the carrycot.

er, elsieanjoanne, there is some evidence that it's better for v small babies to be flat most of the time.

And the carrycot comes off the micralite just as easily as the carseat, so you could just put that on the bus first, then fold the chassis.

Agree with everything MrsB has said.
