Hello mommies and mommie to be's I am currently 27 weeks and five days pregnant and baby kicks quite a lot through out the day more so in the evenings though. I haven't really been keeping a kick count just going by if he's been rather active from day to day now what's worrying me about kick counting is that I work full time so sometimes my mind is occupied on work and don't feel baby that much until the evening. How many times a day should baby move ? Do I sit down for an hour a night and see how many kicks I get? It's all a bit confusing xx

My midwife and triage told me that they don't go by kick counters anymore as they aren't reliable, they say to just go by your babies usual pattern.
I am 28+6 and my baby doesn't' really have a pattern as such, she is very active for around 5 days a week and fairly quiet maybe for 2 days a week, these can vary and it did panic me a lot when it first started happening (lots of worried calls to the triage and pestering my midwife), but now I've learnt that is normal for her so there really isn't any need to worry in my case when she has a quieter day.
They just said to call if she is really out of the usual for her.

The idea of actually counting kicks isn't recommended anymore. Instead, you are encouraged to get to know your baby's movements and know what's normal for them and call the midwife if you feel that they aren't being normal or if you are concerned.

I've definitely had days where I was rushing about at work and didn't notice, but thankfully my job is normally desk-based and as I've progressed (34 weeks now) the movements are pretty hard to miss!

I've also been told that your movements can rock the baby to sleep, so when you're active and busy during the day it can be normal to not feel much movement as the baby is sleeping. They then become more active when you are inactive 😊 my girl always goes mad kicking when I'm in bed watching tv before going to sleep
