I had my blood taken at first midwife appointment and it was unusually painful, now my arms all bruised just wondering if it's normal?

Thankyou

I would say that this is not normal! I have had blood taken a few times in pregnancy and have never been left with a bruise.

MrsG95 · 29/04/2018 19:36

I've had many bruises after bloods but nothing like that!!

Bluebirdsky · 29/04/2018 19:39

No that's not normal but it can happen sometimes (it has happened to me on a couple of occasions) it does clear up.

jl3514 · 29/04/2018 19:42

Read something it may be when there hasn't been enough pressure on arm when bloods were being taken

MrsG95 · 29/04/2018 19:44

Jl could very well be right.
I was left with a sore bruise a couple weeks ago when I didn't apply pressure immediately after the needle being removed

lolli18 · 29/04/2018 19:46

Jesus I'm shitting my self but it was taken On Wednesday so I suppose if anything bad was going to happen it would of??
I'm so worried though 😕

Both first times this happened to me, in fact it was probably worse. Could barely move my arm either. It means they took the needle out too fast and it’s bled out inside... you’ll be perfectly fine though!

Just realised I got the dirty tin in the sink in the picture haha burnt the stuffing lol

(And you didn’t apply proper pressure afterwards)

lolli18 · 29/04/2018 19:48

Not "normal" but many people bruise after having bloods taken. There is nothing wrong. It can be difficult to get blood from some people, or maybe there wasn't enough pressure applied afterwards, or maybe you bruise easily. That looks "normal" enough after a few days. You can see it clearing up.

lolli18 · 29/04/2018 20:10

@IWouldLikeToKnow thankyou
It is clearing up just the shape made me worry about a broken vein

Hi op,

Has bloods done twice last week in same arm and the second time the doctors found it very difficult to get the blood out. It was not flowing so ended up with horrible bruising some of it black. A week later and its almost gone. Hopefully yours will heal up soon

lolli18 · 29/04/2018 20:42

@twobambinos yea it will do seems to be change if colour properly :) hopefully not obvious at work tomorrow lol

I had one like this. They've never been able to get to my veins easily as they are really tiny. They dug around for ages, resulting in this. It went after about a week. But if you are worried, no harm in getting someone to have a look.

NotTakenUsername · 29/04/2018 20:50

Ugh. I have had this, always after a ‘rough’ hcp has taken the blood.
I’ve also given samples when I honestly haven’t felt a thing. Some hcp just seem to be more skilled than others:

twobambinos · 29/04/2018 20:50

It does look to me like it's healing and will probably be gone in another day or two but I'm not a healthcare expert at all, bit of concealer might cover it for you or a long sleeve top.

Rosemary my veins are the only part of me that was every described as small Grin

lolli18 · 29/04/2018 20:57

Well it was the midwife so I imagine they aren't as specialised as a phlebotomist could be wrong though but it was so painful when she was doing it and had a dead arm all day
