At that point where im slowly but surely losing the plot. 36+3 and Currently trying to sleep actually sitting up! The minute i even go to nod off im sick im my mouth and wide awake. Sore back, swollen hoo ha, burning ribs, restless legs, painful BH etc i can cope with, but acid bloody reflux is the bane of my life, nothing is working 《cries real tears》. Just needed to rant as i think ive made my DPs ears bleed with my moaning lol im getting ZERO sleep.

It is soooo awful I really feel for you. Swig gaviscon x

Oh god I had it this bad. Apples! Honestly I’d eat an apple before bed and keep one on the bedside table, and I’d manage to sleep until 2/3am before the acid would make me nearly throw up. Then eat an Apple, drink some water and I’d get through till morning.

And about 8 million gaviscon suckable tablet things.

If it’s any help it goes the actual second you give birth, so you’ve not got that much longer!

Oh and if anyone says “it’s good practice for when baby gets here!” R.e the not sleeping you have absolute permission to punch them.

I had this having previously suffered with a suspected stomach ulcer before falling pregnant. The doctor prescribed omeprezole and I havnt had a bit of bother since!!

I feel for you - used to have little understanding when people moaned about "heartburn" or acid reflux until I was pregnant and almost drove me over the edge. Little help from (male) GP who cheerfully told me it would get worse before it got better.... What worked for me:
Slept propped up on pillows for last 3 months.
Apples, like pp, also helped with a bit of cheese.
Walked the streets at night when it was freezing, breathing in through my mouth to try and get acid/burning sensation cooled (it was winter, but would not recommend)
Sucked ice lollies.
Got private prescription for ranitidine - it is not recommended simply because it has never been trialled and would be unethical to trial on pregnant women for obvious reasons -it worked however.
I think it is easy to underestimate the misery it causes - I felt my oesophagus was on fire (didn't have the sicky stuff coming up though) and is pretty much the main memory of my otherwise straightforward twin pregnancy. If it's any comfort, giving birth and recovery felt like a doddle after going through that...

Thanks girls, this is my third pregnancy and all 3 ive suffered from this. Trip to the docs tomorrow for omeprazole i think as thats the only thing that helps remotely. my doc wouldnt prescribe it til near the end both times before but im at that point now.
Ranitidine doesnt work at all for me,ive been on it for the past week. Managed to fall asleep after 3 after throwing up 4 times. Just woke half hour ago and DP said to me 'oh you must have had a good sleep judging by the sound of you' (referring to my snoring). Dont think ive ever wanted to headbutt anyone so much in my life lol i was like i you bloody kidding me, i was up til after 3 throwing up!! Men eh! Lol

Have you been to the GP? You may get unlucky like pp, but if they are understanding a medication like ranitidine or omeprazole is thought to be safe in pregnancy and can really help. You can get ranitidine over the counter, but not if you're pregnant, and I think it's better to get a Dr to advise/reassure/prescribe it anyway. Good luck, sounds really miserable.

Boredoftryingusernames · 29/04/2018 08:20

Sorry, cross post! Hopefully you'll get the omeprazole!

Aw12345 · 29/04/2018 12:27

Totally agree with PP- I'm up very often overnight vomiting (hav been for the last 23 weeks now) and the next person who tells me it's good practice I will absolutely go mad at them!!!! Do you vomit 30 times overnight with a new born? No. Do you have to go into work the next day? No (for most people). Can my DH take some of the burden? Yes. End of!!!
