So I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I don't know whether I've only just noticed it as I'm having a night from hell with acid , restless legs ect but my whole body especially belly bum checks and legs are really itchy! I noticed it after my bath which had no soap in it so I know it's not that I've tried body moisturiser and that's not working either I feel like my skin is crawling constantly so I've done some research and found this condition that can be really dangerous during pregnancy so basically who do I talk to about this as apparently blood tests need to be taken to find out asap ? Is it doctors or midwifes

phone the 24/7 midwife unit in a few hours to talk thru your symptoms. You don't need to phone them NOW, sometime this morning will be good enough. They will advise if you need to do anything.

Do you have a list of contact numbers? I’m my area it’s either the maternity assessment unit or the labour ward you need to contact.

Have a read of this, it talks about itching in pregnancy. It’s very common but best to get checked out.

@chickhonhoneybabe
I have numbers on the front of my notes so I'm the morning I will contact the maternity assessment unit , worry what should I say to them? Asbim scared they won't take me seriously and I don't get the tests done

Tell them your symptoms and you’d like to be checked over.

The blood test is the only way cholestasis can be confirmed, however if you get no joy from the MAC ring NHS 111 as a GP is also able to diagnose it too.

Try not to worry, itching in pregnancy is very common x

I had this and it was PEP / PUPPP. Nearly drove me mad. My saviour was a stinky soap called Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap (bought it on Amaz on). Cleared it up a treat.

Boredoftryingusernames · 28/04/2018 07:01

Hope is all ok and nothing to worry about, but agree you should be checked out. I would read through the above NHS link and make a list of the things that apply to you that are associated with obstetric cholestasis - usually starts 30 weeks onwards, intense itching, worst at night etc. If you don't feel they are taking you seriously then I would refer specifically to the NHS advice on-line rather than just saying you have read about the condition on the internet.
Good luck!

OC is usually associated with itching on hands and feet, so doesn't sound like it's that, however ring you're Day Assessment Unit or maternity triage. Number should be on the front of your notes

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/04/2018 07:14

It could also be anaemia.

But you need to rule out any liver involvement so do get checked quickly.

I had unbearable itching on my bump. The only thing that cleared it up was a lavender and geranium cream like [[https://www.attisuk.com/en/hand-made-body-butters-uk/330-attis-relaxing-shea-body-butter-with-geranium-and-lavender-essential-oils-vegan-5060180524678.html#/35-size-10_ml this]

If it isn't anything more serious, but just pregnancy itching, you could also try aqueous cream with calamine - some chemists sell it.

Babyitscoldouts1de · 28/04/2018 09:38

I had OC in my first pregnancy and palms of hands and soles of feet never itched much. It was worst on bump, fore arms and shins. Get to your local midwife triage at hospital and ask for the blood test.

If it is OC then they will be able to monitor your baby and give you medication to help manage the bile acids. There is a good facebook group called ICP support you can check out for support and advice.

ragged · 28/04/2018 10:53

What did they say when you rang, OP?
They'll take it seriously, especially if you have certain symptoms.
But hopefully it's normal itching & no requirement for any treatment.

Waterfountain97 · 28/04/2018 14:01

Do you have a rash?

It could be PUPPP, bloody awful, but harmless.
