Ok so, I did a test this afternoon after throwing up non-stop for the last week or so and it was a BFP, I reckon i'm about 6-8 weeks preg. (Cycles bit crazy)

Here's the thing, 2 MC's in the past has made me & DP very nervous so I'm trying to make sure that there is nothing here that can be of any danger so.....

I have 2 cats and 6 rats and DP throws up everytime he tries to clean them out any ideas? is it still safe to clean them out?

I've booked the day before my birthday to go to alton towers and dont want to let on to anyone that i'm preg so will certain rides be ok or should i try to sell the tickets and persuade them to go somewhere else?

Can't think of anything else at the mo, please advise.

Thanks

Rats and cats - I think as long as you wear gloves, and wash your hands thoroughly after anyway, you should be fine.

However, I think in the circumstances your DP should grow a pair of balls and do it himself.

Alton Towers should be fine. Its only mid to late stage pg that you would be concerned about lots of bouncing/bumping around (and the safety harnessess probably wouldnt secure you either).

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/05/2007 18:43

Oh, and congratulations

Jenswish · 14/05/2007 18:45

Bless him, i've told him he needs to get used to it, but i've watched him try, he ends up dry-heaving and running to the loo, so funny.

Thanks for the congrats and am actually glad to be able to go alton towers it'll be the last hurrah kinda thing, lol

Alot of rides willsaynot suitable for pregnant women...all todowithinsurance I guess.

hertsnessex · 14/05/2007 18:53

not sure how far along you will be, but most rides are big no-nos when preg - it doesnt matter how far along you are.

chk with your mw or gp, but personally i didnt take the risk.

belgo · 14/05/2007 18:55

Congratulations!

I have to admit, I wouldn't have wanted to go on any of the rides at Alton Towers during my pregnancies - I don't know if it's dangerous for pregnant women or not, but with morning sickness it would have been awful.

Jenswish · 14/05/2007 18:58

well will check the rides. I know nemesis is not for pg women (scares the crap outta me anyway so that's ok) but I might just try and find something a little calmer.

trace2 · 15/05/2007 08:31

arrrgh jen congrats just look after yourself! xxxx

goingfor3 · 15/05/2007 08:35

I woudn't risk going on any rides at Alton towers, it's not worth it.

You have to be really careful when cleaning cats.

Furrymummy · 15/05/2007 08:42

Alton Towers - most of the cool rides are a no no for pg women. Especially with m/s!!!
As for cats and rats - tell DP to clean trays/cages out. Also if you do any gardening always wear gloves!

wuzzlefraggle · 15/05/2007 09:30

ooooh, jen, as for the cats. I have 2. I still cleaned them out, i just made sure that i washed my hands very very thoroughly. You can get disposable plastic gloves too. Needless to say my pregnancy was fine, and LO is now 6 months and 2 weeks

Ooh-just seen. CONGRATULATIONS ! Hope all goes well for you.

((xx))

MrsMar · 15/05/2007 12:15

My dh always said he couldn't do the cat box, he used to gag at the thought of it! He's got pretty good now, only makes a fuss for twenty minutes or so, and goes on about it for 24 hours!! We do a full clean out once a week which he does, but I use a scooper thing to pick up any poos during the week and plonk it straight in to a bag (or down the loo sometimes - we use flushable cat litter) I wear gloves when I do this and wash my hands thoroughly afterwards. No problems so far! Good luck and congratulations xx

RGPargy · 15/05/2007 12:33

Congrats!!

As others have said, wear gloves when doing kitty cat/rat stuff.

As for Alton Towers, i wouldn't go near any of the rides personally!!

As FioFio has said, you can lots of other stuff. I personally would spend my time stuffing my face on all the sweets and fudge etc that they sell - gotta have some pleasures, eh?!!

HappyCatandIzzy · 15/05/2007 21:44

Congratulations Jenswish! I'm so pleased for you. We were on TTC threads a while ago, when my name was HopingCat.

If you can manage to go on rides in the car without being sick you'll be doing better than me when I was pg, never mind Alton Towers! We've got cats and I read up on what I should or shouldn't do with them. The advice about wearing gloves is basically what I found, but I just got DH to deal with cats and do the gardening.

I really hope everything goes well for you!

NatalieJane · 16/05/2007 10:19

Jen, what can I say? Fantastic news.

I can't stay this is costing me a fortune, but when I get my internet back I will email you for all the gossip

I am so so so pleased for you, take care of yourself xxx

podglet · 16/05/2007 15:13

Hi Jenswish,

Just like Happycat, we were on the ttc boards together some time ago - am so pleased to hear the news (btw, I was Jen1209 then) - hope you have a happy and healthy pg and a beautiful bonny babe at the end of it

Afraid no advice re pets and Alton Towers but wanted to add my congrats.

peachygirl · 16/05/2007 15:23

Hooray hooray congratulations
Go for gloves, disposable would be good then you can chuck them away!!

peachygirl · 16/05/2007 18:16

Just thought you could ask the surgery to do the toxoplasmosis test with your blood test cos lits of people are already immune. (not me though)

Jenswish · 16/05/2007 19:24

ok so, I've told DP about the fact I can't do the cats and rats really and he's said he'll try to help out more. Although he will buy me some gloves.

As for Alton Towers I'm not going anymore, thinking of doing something else but don't know what. I kinda want to go to London and see a show and madame tussauds.

Thanks for all the congrats and all should be well (this time I hope)

New question. I'm not registered at the doctors by me (still registered 30 miles away at the old one) and i've tried to register but they say it'll take at least 2 weeks, Can I call the hospital direct to try to get an appointment with the midwife?
