Not sure if anyone might have the answer, I'm 14 weeks almost 15 weeks pregnant and I had my probation last week. They have decided to extend my probation to an extra month. If they decide they don't want me what are my options? I'll be 19 weeks when they do the review no one will want a to employ a 5 month pregnant woman if they dismiss me 😭😭

Do they know you’re pregnant? What was the reason given for extending your probation? Are you in a union?

Markygirl1995 · 23/04/2018 17:10

@PurpleDaisies they said they have extended it to make sure I put notes in my calls which I am doing after speaking with customers and engineers and just acting professional in office with colleagues which I am usually sometimes I get too wrapped in conversations in office which I've stopped doing now since I've been told about the extension

I'd have a read of your contract and contact citizens advice chick it's a tricky one but if they know your pregnant I'm sure they can't let you go

Rubbish. If someone is genuinely not meeting standards then they can be dismissed.

OP you know where you're going wrong so now you've got a month to prove yourself. Your employer could have legitimately dismissed you now, so make the most of the opportunity you've been given. Ask your manager for feedback after two weeks to ensure you're staying on track.

@Thinkpositive23 I'm sure I never got given a contract would you think it would be weird if I asked for it 🙈🙈

Speak to ACAS.

Of course they can. They just can't discriminate against OP because she is pregnant, but it is often very hard to prove this. And the point of a probation period is that at the end of it either party can decide to walk away from the employment relationship if they feel it isn't working.

OP I would make sure you clearly understand and document any performance feedback you have been given, and make sure you demonstrate you have taken it on board and acted on it. If you have reason to suspect they are discriminating against you because you are pregnant you could speak to ACAS or Maternity Action. But ultimately if they have genuine concerns about performance or your ability and fit in the role, they are not obliged to disregard them because of your pregnancy.

Markygirl1995 · 23/04/2018 17:28

I think I'll request a 1 to 1 in 2 weeks for feedback on my performance so I know where I stand

You should 100% ask for a contract or a copy of your contract I'm sure all work should provide one. Also ACAS someone else mentioned are brilliant x

I'm not sure what to do 😔 I'm trying my hardest my review is 23rd May
