Hello, I am 36+1 and my PGP has gone beyond what I can cope with, physio doesn't really help and I'm at he end of my tether! I know I haven't got long left but I wondered if anyone had any tips for pain relief and being able to sleep with it, hot water bottles aren't really helping today either :(

I had god knows how many pillows, basically to try and keep my hips in line, so a little pillow under my waist and ones between my legs down the full length. Presumably your physio has advised you of all the usual tips. Do you have crutches or a support belt? Are you taking any painkillers?

StacyHall · 22/04/2018 20:49

Yeah she gave me some tips, I used to have a 'tubi grip' like bandage for support but my bump got so big I had to stop wearing it as baby wasn't moving whilst I was wearing it. She did mention a support belt but said my hips keep moving out of place so I can't have it, she said my hips need to stay in place, which doesn't make sense to me because I thought they were used to keep them in the right position?! I'm just hoping he's early now, he's engaged now so hopefully won't be too long!

I think doctors will prescribe cocodamol for PGP if appropriate so might be worth a visit to your GP? It's hard going though isn't is, I couldn't wait to have my baby just so laying in bed wouldn't be so painful 😩 it gets better as soon as they're out though!

I've been suffering for the last month but recently went to an osteopath (paid privately) and he used manual therapy to realign my pelvis - it has made a big difference and means that I am aching everyday instead of suffering quite intense pain - a huge improvement. I still have to be very careful not to overdo and the pain does start to build up after a while but it's given me a bit of a fresh start. Good luck!

coffeeX10 · 23/04/2018 10:47

ive just posted asking about acupuncture because ive read that its fab, my pain is in my pubic bone so physio is not helping me either.

StacyHall · 23/04/2018 11:23

I've been told I'm too far along for acupuncture :( I'm due back at physio on Wednesday and I'm dreading it, it hurts so much when she re positions my pelvis and relieves the knots in my muscles and nerves :( problem is I can't keep still, I keep feeling like a have to do things in the house which is driving me mad! I'm under 5ft so apparently that doesn't help as there is a lot of baby in such a small space 😂

Can you use a tens machine? They were talked about in my physio session but I can't remember at what gestation she said you can use them.

coffeeX10 · 23/04/2018 11:44

Oh no, i never even thought about being the wrong gestation! Im 26w so hopefully i can still try it.

ive heard the same thing about height - im 5'2" and was told the same.

I have a new mattress which has helped slightly and i sleep in a giant pregnancy pillow which is shaped like a U and is 12ft long (im like a hotdog in the middle of a bun) again this helps a bit but im turning over all night from side to side when one hip gets too uncomfortable.

Hope it vanishes after birth again like it did in my first pregnancy.

Spam88 · 23/04/2018 11:52

Oh coffee that reminds me, sleeping on a folded duvet made things a bit more comfortable as well.

coffeeX10 · 23/04/2018 12:03

Oh thanks @spam88 ill give that a go

FranticallyPeaceful · 23/04/2018 13:46

Too far along for acupuncture? I had acupuncture at 41 weeks!

RaliaMusca · 23/04/2018 15:51

I got PGP very early on, around 7 weeks, and it got progressively worse to the extent that I could barely walk. I'm now only 17 weeks along but it's currently gone completely, despite just having spent a week overseas with work on trade fairs walking around all day, plus two 12-hour flights. I was soooo worried before going on this trip because of the PGP. The day before I went, I saw my osteopath. Like tweetypi has mentioned, they very gently realign your pelvis and it did wonders for me. It didn't go away immediately but after a day or two. The osteopath also told me that walking lots will actually help and gave me some stretching exercises.
I know you're of course much further along than me but if you are able to fund it, go see an osteopath (it's also great in general during pregnancy for all sorts of ailments). They're much more gentle than physios and in my experience work better. And try and stay active as much as you can. Hope you feel better soon!

StacyHall · 23/04/2018 17:51

Yeah I was told I'm too far along :/ mine came on at 7 weeks too, just on the right hand side and they were worried about ectopic pregnancy so I had to have an early scan. I will mention acupuncture to the physio on Wednesday, some days I struggle to move, I was going to really enjoy my first pregnancy but I've struggled with most of it which is a shame :(

Anyone know what painkillers you can take for PGP. Mine has really ramped up over the weekend and has gone from 'mildly annoying' to 'actually not sure I can get home from work'. I'm seeing the physio again soon and am hoping to get some more advice from her, but ib the meantime I just hurt!

scaredofthecity · 24/04/2018 19:28

I'm 38 (nearly 39) weeks and have been having acupuncture for the last 3 weeks. It is AMAZING, £££, but omg the relief. It doesn't take the pain away completely but means I can function. I just couldn't get on with cocodamol and just couldn't stop crying because of the pain, but I'm back to managing again.
Leave the house alone! It can wait and really doesn't matter. You're just going to make it worse. Rest is key now. Especially avoid bending over, that is the worst for pain.
Flowers it sucks, but the end is in sight.

scaredofthecity · 24/04/2018 19:32

siol you can take paracetamol, there are stronger things available like cocodamol but they need to be prescribed. Avoid nsaids such as ibuprofen especially in 3rd trimester as they can be dangerous to the baby.
