Will being sick help the constant nausea?

I'm about 8 weeks pregnant (got my first midwife appointment on Tuesday) but the last couple of weeks have been absolute hell with morning sickness. It's been all day, but especially bad in the morning and evenings. I've not actually been sick but feel so rough that I've not been able to do much except rest.

I just wondered, if I'm actually sick, will it help with the nausea? I'm tired of not being able to eat anything and feeling so crap, and I know I've got a long way to go before it eases off!

When I had morning sickness (very mild but still unpleasant) straight after I was sick the nausea was gone. I had it the second I woke up and then I'd be sick maybe ten minutes later. Didn't have it for rest f day. Good luck!

With both of my pregnancies, I had nausea and vomiting for the whole duration. For me vomiting didn't help at all. I hope yours eases off by the end of the first trimester as it does for many.

I found the days I’ve been sick (which is most of them) I do feel better for the rest of the day. I still couldn’t bring myself to make myself sick though, just don’t try and fight it.

Eminybob · 22/04/2018 18:33

It’s hell isnt it? I’m going through exactly the same thing at the moment. I do feel that if I were actually sick it would make me feel better but I just cant. I just stand over the toilet dry heaving.

Although I’m never sick, even when I have a bug or something I can very very rarely actually throw up.

booandbumpp · 22/04/2018 18:37

If I'm sick my nausea eases for about an hour and then it's just as bad!

JammyGem · 22/04/2018 18:53

It's just horrible! I've tried all the usual stuff that's supposed to help with nausea but nothing seems to help at the moment.

I think it's made worse by not not wanting to eat anything. If I fancy something I have to eat it, no matter how unhealthy it is, just to get some food in me. For example, today the only food that has sounded at all appetising is McDonald's chips (!) so DH is currently on his way to get some for me. Grin

The nausea eases after the first trimester, right? I can't carry on for the whole pregnancy like this!

Sorry not sure how I double posted!

Grandmaswagsbag · 22/04/2018 19:44

Just eat what you fancy/can. I lived off crap for both my 1st trimesters as it’s all I could face. Mines just eased off at 16 weeks so don’t be disheartened if you get to 12 and still suffer. It’s pretty rare to have it all the way through!

I have HG and vomiting makes no difference whatsoever. In fact, a friend had nausea with her first and used to wish she could vomit to relieve it, she then had HG with her second and regretted ever thinking it!

TwatWaffle · 22/04/2018 20:08

I had HG with 2nd pregnancy, and did find being sick meant I felt better for about 5-10 glorious minutes before going back to constant nausea and feeling like I was going to be sick any minute.

Mine went on until week 22 or so - sorry! Tablets, the amazing HG support group on here and a month off work helped. Keeping everything crossed for you it eases soon!

rememberthetime · 22/04/2018 20:08

Make sure to tell your midwife and your doctor about the sickness. I had it so bad that I couldn't eat without throwing up and had to be medicated at 11 weeks. it really helped.

but more importantly, not eating can result in low iron levels which will make you feel much worse. So checking for these things will be more important.

I did feel better after being sick, but briefly. it would soon come back. the only things I could eat most days was Pringles and fresh fruit.

AndromedaPerseus · 22/04/2018 20:12

I found the only thing which helped my HG was to lie down and go to sleep. For me HG for all 3 pregnancies began at 6 weeks and ended week 12

FrozenMargarita17 · 22/04/2018 20:28

I actually had nausea but no vomiting and omg what I would have given to actually throw up. There was no end to the constant sick feeling and I felt that being sick would be the end but there was no end..

Just found a temporary cure (for now, until I overdo it and can’t face the thought of them) - Aldi granola corner yogurts. Just had 2 and seriously considering a third.
Everything else I have eaten today has made me feel grim

Boredoftryingusernames · 22/04/2018 21:45

Definitely just eat what you can and don't worry about how unhealthy it may be. It's really important to try and eat and drink something, baby will be fine on chips and fizzy drinks for now!
If you look at the hyperemesis support thread on here everytime someone new posts the lady who runs the thread puts a list of food and drink that people have found helpful and been able to stomach, hopefully you may get some ideas off that. It is mainly salty or sweet foods in general.
On the vomiting front I unfortunately find I get about 10 minutes relief from the nausea after vomiting so unfortunately not a long relief. This pregnancy I have had HG so still have constant nausea at 21 weeks, in my first pregnancy I had awful nausea with some vomiting which settled at 20 weeks. I found it quite depressing to be told it would settle at 12 weeks, then 14, then 16 etc for it not too. Unfortunately 12 weeks seems a bit early for it to go for lots of people, 14 more normal, luckily it is meant to be very rare for it to continue after 20 weeks - I know that seems a long way off for you now Sad.

One more thing to consider is meds to help if it is affecting your ability to carry out daily tasks, eat properly etc. Try and see your GP to see if medication helps - have a read first on the Pregnancy Sickness Support website (link on first page of HG thread on here if you can't find it) - lots of info for people suffering from all degrees of nausea and/or vomiting.
I really hope yours settles soon, it's truly awful.

Bluebirdsky · 22/04/2018 22:16

For me personally vomiting only relieved the nausea for a very short time, then it just came straight back.

Sharon1983 · 22/04/2018 22:18

I have had the same nausea and constant vomitting..diagnosed with HG. I went to my doctors and after testungnmy urine i was immediately told to go the hospital. A few hours of being on a drip and anti sickness injection it made me feel better and could actually keep food down for a few days. Until it started all over and was back at the hospital. Worth it for a few days of not being sick constantly.
Gynae at hospital said it is severe dehydration and it is best to go to a&e where a few hours in a cubicle is a temporary cure.

Claire90ftm · 22/04/2018 22:32

Well it definitely helped me. I went through a week or two feeling sick all day without being sick. It was awful. But as soon as I started being sick, I felt so much better. I would even look forward to it, weird as it sounds, because I was usually ready to eat something straight afterwards; otherwise I had NO appetite and didn't want any food.

Mousefunky · 22/04/2018 22:41

Nope, it didn’t help me one iota. With my first DC I had all day nausea and would vomit 3-6 times a day. The nausea never went away.
