I got mine after my first trip to the docs. Got given the forms, sent them off and then it appeared in thepost a week or so later.

never did get one with latest pregnancy tbh
figured that if I ever needed anything , I would just tick appropriate box on prescriptions forms

morocco · 13/05/2007 21:37

i also got my form when first went to the gp - they are great

bambino1 · 13/05/2007 21:39

oh - doc didn't mention anything neither has mw! I will make some calls tomo. I'm being a cheapskate really, i'm due a check up at dentist and don't really want to pay for it!!!

As soon as you find out you're pregnant you can get it, but I had to actually ask my GP for it also, it wasn't mentioned to me before I took the initiative.

hana · 13/05/2007 21:48

but you don't really need it - all records are checked anyways when things are sent back

bambino1 · 13/05/2007 21:48

Do you think I need to actually ,ake an appointment and waste a docs time or just pop in to the surgery?

receptionists will take care of it, you won't need an appointmentn if you msut get one!

bambino1 · 13/05/2007 21:59

I'm a bit neurotic about things like this! If ican get it then i must get it! I drive DH mad when preg! hehe!

It is more for the dentist treatment really as it is also free for a year after the birth.

agnesnitt · 13/05/2007 23:17

Just ask your receptionist at the GPs. They'll ask you to fill in half a form, they'll stamp the other side, doctor will sign to say you're not a lying mare and then it'll be posted off. A week or so later you get your card.

You should get one, as not every chemist or dentist will believe you when you tick the box.

My pharmacist gave me a form to send off - think i had to get the GP to sign or stamp it. The GP hadn't mentioned it to me at all - grrrr!

bambino1 · 14/05/2007 15:11

Thank you for all your advice. Just popped into docs and filled form out there and then.
It is so one of the perks of being preg!

It was a lifesaver for me last time round. It was the only help I was entitled to, and while pregnant my asthma kicked off in a very spectacular manner. I would never have been able to afford all my prescription charges so had it not been for the exemption card I'd've been back to the old student trick of deciding which medication was the most important month by month >_<
