Recently diagnosed with GD - so sad

I’m 28 +3 and got my formal diagnosis yesterday. I’m so scared and feel so guilty. What happens now? Baby was growing fine at 24 week scan (not too big or small) and I am measuring fine (-1week) on my FH.

I’m so sad and feel so guilty. I am so worried about the baby. Also about the logistics of things. I need prick test 6 times a day and also need to go to the clinic for monitoring every Tuesday, plus additional scans. But I work full time and have a six year old. I don’t understand how this is going to be achievable? And the metformin is causing havoc with my stomac and I spend half the time in the bathroom.
Can someone please share their experiences with me? Many Thanks

Rgds

Could they make an exception on the desk/eating rule for you? Seems like really solid snacks every 2 hours is important .

Yes I think I’d ask for an occupational health assessment given your situation. Maybe some kind of exception can be made?

Don’t feel guilty. My friend who had GD in her last pregnancy had a healthier diet and did more exercise throughout her pregnancy than I did. It’s hormones/bad luck.

Thank you so much everyone. Feeling abit more hopeful today. Tolerating the metformin ok so far and have made myself a meal plan (not seeing dietician until tmrw) so I’m feeling abit more positive. I have been going for longish walks after every meal and starting to get my head around what I need to do. Obviously won’t know if I’m doing ok until I can prick test but I’m calmer about it now. At least a little.

Will keep you posted and any more stories and tips would be massively appreciated.

Oh and another thing, do I really have to eat snacks?
