Mums to be Oxfordshire

Hi guys,

Any mums to be living Oxfordshire area? I'm due September and as I'm new in the area I don't know many people and no mums to be. This is my first. It would be nice to build up a friendship network.

😊

Bingwa?? WTF? Sorry

Aw12345 · 20/04/2018 18:54

I'm also Warwick (have high risk birth so have to go to consultant place). Have heard very good things about JR (a few friends have given birth there) but just the traffic and parking is a flipping nightmare and I can't imagine being in labour and stuck in traffic!!

cautiousoptimist1 · 20/04/2018 19:33

I’ve heard good things about JR and think if I were a first timer then I’d go there for the reassurance of having obstetrics there. But the journey completely puts me off, I don’t want to be that far from DD as I hope she can come and see the new baby in the hospital. I also don’t fancy the journey/parking to Oxford whilst in active labour.
Attempting to centralise Oxfordshire consultant led services seems crazy to me and I worry about just how busy the JR wards and staff will be.
I should say though that these are all just my thoughts, I don’t have any first hand experience of using the JR.

Hoping to avoid the JR too and go for a water birth at the Horton like my first. The staff there are fantastic so if I end up there I’m sure it will be fine but it is soooo busy and the journey horrendous and parking a nightmare in the day. I hate the thought of having to do that in labour too, cautious. I had to go for monitoring a few weeks ago to the JR. Staff were so nice and got on the monitor quickly but then had to wait 4 hours to see Dr to check results as they were flat out. All the time my DH was trying to entertain 2.5 year old 😬 heard it can be a long wait to get checked when you go in during labour. Got vision of giving birth in the assessment waiting area 🙈
There are Some lovely church stay and plays around banbury. The one in Marlborough road in the Methodist church (opposite the library) is particularly good 😊

How strange readysetcake, I was walking back to my car after rhymetime on Tuesday when someone stopped me to tell me about that group. I may be there on Tuesday!

readysetcake · 20/04/2018 22:23

I may see you there! I particularly like their biscuit selection. Feel free to PM me of you want to meet there to chat 😊 when are you due? I’m 21st May. Just over 4 weeks (hopefully not longer).
Heard nice things about Warwick Aw was tempted to get referred their but couldn’t face the re booking in i’d need to do (bloods, consultant etc)

cautiousoptimist1 · 21/04/2018 06:55

I’m 19th May!

Aw12345 · 21/04/2018 18:53

Peoples Church in Banbury (near Peoples Park) has 'Family Time' on Wednesdays at 10am too :-)

Can't wait to go to all these things with my little one!!

FutureMum · 22/04/2018 06:56

I am in West Oxfordshire and due in October x

Leanneedd · 22/04/2018 12:26

Everyone had a nice weekend? Any tips for things to take for hayfever? 20 week scan on Tuesday. I am feeling a little nervous about it actually. How did everyone's go who has had it?

cautiousoptimist1 · 22/04/2018 15:45

I think it’s completely normal to be nervous ahead of the 20 week scan, hope everything goes well. Will you also find out if you’re having a boy or girl?
My 36 week scan is on Tuesday too and I’m also a bit nervous but looking forward to seeing him/her again.

Leanneedd · 23/04/2018 08:42

Yes, going to find out. I guess you're after a nice surprise then.

Aw12345 · 23/04/2018 15:56

Hope scan goes well :-) I'm sure all will be fine but I know how you feel! So scary to think they may find something!

Mine was fine but I was nervous before :-) couldn't believe how much the baby had grown since 12 week scan, no wonder I was so knackered all the time!

Leanneedd · 23/04/2018 17:26

@aww1234 thanks hun. Do you not know gender either? I can't wait a minute longer. I would have got an early scan had I not been so busy.

OP posts:
Aw12345 · 23/04/2018 18:42

Mine is a little boy :-) Would have been very happy either way though :-) let us know tomorrow as soon as you find out what you're having!

readysetcake · 23/04/2018 22:01

@Leanneedd I was a nervous wreck before my 12 and 20 week scans. But I’m sure all will be well. Good luck for tomorrow and let us know what you’re having.
I had my 36 week scan today and it’s was lovely to see baby again, though images aren’t as good as the 20 week one. Baby is 6lb (though feels much bigger as it dances around right now), so on course to be 7-8lb. Slightly concerned it’s head is measuring on the 95 percentile 😱
Didn’t know about the group at people’s church Aw, thanks 😊
We could end up being birth neighbours cautious!

cautiousoptimist1 · 15/08/2018 14:42

Sorry to bump an old thread but how are you all getting on?

I had my second daughter in May. I had a lovely birth at the Horton but ended up at JR afterwards as my blood pressure kept rising.
