Statutory maternity pay

Hi ladies

Wondering if anyone could make this clearer, after six weeks I will be on statutory mat pay but still paying towards my pension. Will my pension payments reduce as my pay or will I still be paying the same as I have been?
Thanks in advance x

If your pension is a percentage then it will be the same percentage but of the mat pay instead of the normal pay. Mine is 4% so I'd assume when on mat leave I'd pay in 4% of the mat leave.

I'd check this with HR, as in my case my employer takes them over I think. AFAIK they are not allowed to make deductions which take you below SMP or remove benefits; I know this is the case if you have childcare vouchers.

Thanks ladies, trying to catch our hr is a nightmare at times!

They can deduct pension and trade union contributions. From gov website

Deductions from SMP
SMP is treated as earnings, so your employer will make any deductions (such as income tax and NI contributions) that are due. Your employer can also make other deductions from your SMP, for example pension contributions or trade union subscriptions.

I think it depends on your setup - this discusses the challenges around salary sacrifice (which my scheme is)
