Please help! Such an embarrassing problem but I think ds has caught threadworms and it’s highly contagious. Ive treated him immediately but I fear I may have them and I can not take the tablet given by pharmacist whilst pregnant! I am currently 27 weeks! Has anyone else been in this situation? I am completely freaking out at the thought

Thread worm are very common, anyone can become infected by these from meat not cooked well enough, unwashed fruit and veg, you have acted appropriately by treating son, they pass easily on fingers and under nails as children often scratch at night, hand hygiene is very important, children can pass easily if hygiene levels are not thorough. Don't be embarrassed as most family's experience this at one time or another, you must be a diligent mother to pick up on this early and treat promptly.

They are very common. You can break the cycle with hygeine routines rather than drugs but it's tough. I don't think you get them from undercooked meat though. They eggs are everywhere & children put their hands in their mouths a lot.

I wasn’t aware it could be caught this way and I am just back from holiday and wondering if it’s perhaps been from food. Thank you! I’m just a bit embarrassed as I won’t be able to treat it from what I’ve read on internet? I’m just following strict hygiene routines but it doesn’t look like any medication is ok during pregnancy and I can’t stand the thought of holding out to see when they will go and perhaps passing it back and forth within family when it is so easily spread! Thank you for your reply

I think lennies got their worms mixed up Grin
Don’t worry OP, just treat the rest of the family. The cycle of a worm is around 6 weeks. If you can do the nuclear hygiene thing they’ll just die off the end of their cycle. Serious cleanliness to stop the eggs spreading. Washing bum hole first thing in the morning etc.

If you get symptoms, use a baby wipe to remove the glue and egg. Bag up and bin.

More than likely just one of those things then! I thought that myself! Ds has perhaps picked them up from school or anywhere, as you say children put hands in mouth etc a lot, I’m just concerned the hygiene routine isn’t enough to break it and it says it takes 6 weeks! Argh the thought of waiting 6 weeks with this

I'm sure Ive seen other threads on this on mn in the past so have a look around but good advice here. Make sure you're religiously washing your hands before eating etc and google all the hygiene methods to deal with it while treating the family.

You could try eating pumpkin seeds. iirc they're supposed to help if you have threadworms.

gamerchick · 19/04/2018 09:57

But you may not have caught them. Just do lots of hand washing and damp dusting in the house. Ironing knicker gussets will kill any eggs that survive washing also.

Keep your hands out of your mouth as much sense possible.
