Preparing for MAT leave

I’ve been in my job a number of years, but very recently taken over a line management role with a very small, newly created, team. The team I’m in are still trying to find their purpose- we’re finding our feet.

Since taking on a new team I will only have a matter of months to train them and work out some sort of handover plan! At the moment I am panicking as I don’t know if I can cope with the tiredness of being in my third trimester, getting used to being a line manager, as well as trying to work out a handover plan. This is all getting on top of me and I’m overwhelmed. Does anyone have any tips or advice about how to best prepare for MAT leave? I am diligent and want to do a good job, but at the same time I am struggling with the lack of support that my work are currently offering me.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Get your mat leave cover sorted so they start taking over from 30 weeks. The business case is just in case you go into labour early/have complications etc. The reality is you'll just stop giving a shit around then. Plus you might go into labour early/have complications.

With cover in place you can start handing over projects gradually, work from home a bit more to let them "be the boss" a little without you and gently fade into maternity leave.

Thanks ClareB83. Unfortunately my work seem to be burying their head in be sand re MAT cover, every time I suggest discussing it, it gets put off. I am going to make sure I document my concerns so at least I have something to fall back on.

Yes get writing a detailed handover note that you can update nearer the time, save documents somewhere sensible and label them well so you can leave guilt free.
