Planned csection due to maternal medical issues

Hi all,

I’ve had a bit of a nightmare pregncancy due to an ongoing respiratory issue. I finally saw the respiratory consultant today (28 weeks) who has said there is nothing they can do to make it any better until the baby is born ☹️ She also suggested that I may well need a csection instead of vaginal birth. Not happy!

I’m due to see the consultant for my pregnancy next week but was just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar- at how many weeks were you booked in for a section?

It looks as if I will be having a c-section. I will find out for sure at 36 weeks and was told it will be done at 39 weeks. I know a few other ladies who are due around the same time as me who will also be booked in for their c-sections to be done at 39 weeks.

I know they do sometimes do them earlier due to issues with the baby or the uterus/placenta and so on. Personally, if I am going to have a c-section I feel I would be more comfortable having it at 39 weeks than 40 as I would be scared I'd go into labour if it was left until then, although I know that often first time babies tend to be overdue.

Hi,

I had a planned c-section. We were booked in for 39 weeks but because of the size of the baby and her lack of movement I ended up sectioned at 38 weeks. I don’t think the doctors like to do it before 37 weeks unless absolutely necessary.

Hope all goes well

Brill! Thanks for this- sounds like 39 weeks is the norm then!

39 weeks is definitely 'the norm' all being well. If for any reason they need to do it a bit earlier they may want to give you two steroid injections to help mature the babies lungs and reduce the risk of baby having any breathing problems after the birth.
