I’m at my absolute wits end. I’m 17 weeks pregnant and since about week 5, I’ve had so many nights where I’ll wake up at 3:30/4:00am and either be awake for hours or just not get back to sleep.

Has anyone else experienced this? What can I do? I’m back at work tomorrow after Easter holidays and cannot cope on this little sleep.

Sorry I don't have any advice but suffering with this too; I am 29 weeks now and some weeks/nights are definitely better than others. I find it's worse if I have napped during the day or go to bed too early.

Hi I'm 28 weeks. I had simular early waking problems, from early pregnancy. I tried all the advice about good natural sleeping but it only got worse as the pregnancy progressed. I've been prescribed some anti anxiety medication, really helps me. Bad sleep can have lots of causes though, you need to discus with your gp and midwife really. Before the medication I was trying to wind down from 8pm by not looking at screens, doing some yoga or writing my diary, doing some cbt techniques and having a hot drink. It didn't work so I reluctantly accepted meds. Personally I like horlicks. Also when I wake up in the early hours I move about a bit, go to the loo and have something to eat or drink then relax on the sofa until I either nod off or decide its late enough to call morning and have a coffee and breakfast. I've been a bit anxious about coffee but health professionals have told me my morning coffee is important for waking up properly before driving and my headakes. I like my two breakfasts, a small snack in the Early morning then a proper second breakfast either at home, in the staffroom or brunch with friends. Works for me.

Just don't suffer in silence, sleep is very important so talk to your midwife.
