Hi everyone

So I’ve just got my first ever BFP and can’t stop shaking (in a good way) and I was wondering what do I do next? I literally have no idea!

Also what pains are normal? I’ve had a mixture of what can only be discribed as period type pains and trapped wind pain. This is why it was such a shock as I was sure AF was going to appear!

Any advice for an anxious person would be great haha

Period pains are normal. Someone told me it’s the uterus expanding.

Congratulations!!!

Just take care of yourself! Flowers

Congratulations!

First thing is to start taking folic acid and stop smoking, if you smoke. Then you can self refer to the midwife (No need for a gp appointment) and they'll take it from there. Don't be worried if you don't hear anything for a while, your booking in should be before 10 weeks.

Birchgirl · 14/04/2018 07:32

I’ve been taking folic acid for a few months while TTC is there anything else I need to take. How do I self refer?

Sorry I probably sound so clueless lol

Call your GP surgery and say 'I need an appointment with the midwife - how do I go about it?' Congratulations!

PurpleSnails · 14/04/2018 07:40

Congratulations, I still remember that feeling Grin

Just make sure you're taking pregnancy vitamins and on Monday give your GP a call. They all have slightly different ways of doing it but they should be able to tell you what you need to do to get hold of a midwife. Where I am you usually don't see anyone until around 9-10 weeks for your booking appointment.

Birchgirl · 14/04/2018 08:03

Thank you I’ll ring on Monday.

I’ve ready somewhere I should be taking vit D as well as folic acid is this true?

Also I’m a fizzy pop drinker. Roughly 3-4 cans a day but always diet or zero. Do I need to stop?

So sorry for the question overload lol

If your drinks involve caffeine then you’ll probably need to cut down. Google nhs for advice.
And yes to vit D.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/

All the NHS info on what to do/avoid is here. Don't Google! Wink

piglet81 · 14/04/2018 08:12

(I mean don't Google random foods because people are always posting on here saying 'I read online that you shouldn't eat X' and it's generally not true.)

Birchgirl · 14/04/2018 08:25

Thank you that link is really helpful.

I’m just struggling to find a list of caffeine free drinks anywhere Confused

I’ll be buying some vitamin D today!

Congratulations op! If you know which hospital you want to have your baby at then look on their website; a lot of them now have a form online that you can fill in to refer yourself to the service. They then contact you with your midwife appointment and scan date.

Aw12345 · 14/04/2018 08:32

Congratulations!! Take care of yourself and rest :-)

Emma198 · 14/04/2018 08:36

You can get caffeine free coke and most orange drinks are caffeine free too. From a fellow pregnant fizzy drink fan! X

Birchgirl · 14/04/2018 08:40

I think I’ll try that cause my GP’s are a nightmare to get hold of.

The rest will have to wait until tomorrow I’ve been up since the crack of dawn and can’t drop back off haha

@Emma198 glad to see I’m not the only one. I don’t like any hot drinks and I don’t think I could manage just drinking squash for nine months lol

@birchgirl I downloaded the Ovia pregnancy app which has a handy food look up. Its been really helpful on specific foods, for example checked today and sausage rolls arent recommended! It takes its guidance from American sources instead of the NHS but still useful.
As for drinks most supermarkets do a variety of sugar free flavoured fizzy water if you are trying to avoid caffeine.
Congratulations! X

Birchgirl · 14/04/2018 10:20

I had the Ovia fertility app and found it so good! I’ll have to download the pregnancy one x

Just remember with American things they have different food standards so things might be safe here but not there (and possibly vice versa)

NerdyBird · 14/04/2018 11:13

Oh and congrats!
