When did you start drinking raspberry leaf tea?

Hi ladies,

I'm 35 weeks and all stocked on raspberry leaf tea to hopefully get my body ready for labour, I'm not trying to induce anything. Just wondering when you started drinking raspberry leaf tea and if you've had your babies when did you have your babies and did you see any positive effects?

Thanks!

I would check with your midwife first.

I drink it now as im TTC because its so tasty but I've never seen anything to suggest its not safe to drink throughout pregnancy and beyond Confused i only drink 2 cups of it a day so maybe if you drink huge amounts it can have bad effects ?

I didn't drink raspberry tea. What's it for?

reddressblueshoes · 13/04/2018 15:34

@Praisebe - its said to be a 'womb tonic', it causes the uterus to contract (v minimally) which is toning, and therefore good for TTC as gets blood moving and said to be good in advance of labour as can make contractions more effective/labour shorter.

As a result though, shouldn't drink it in pregnancy due to slight risk of it inducing miscarriage, until close to the end.

I drank it while TTC, would be v interested to know when is best ahead of labour as I really liked it so whether it works particularly or not would be v happy to give it a go.

I started mine at 36weeks has DD at 36+6! Also drank it with ds and he was born at 38weeks. Both of my labours progressed quickly. With ds I was examined at 9:30 and was around 2.5cm dilated just under an hour later I wanted to push and he arrived within 40 minutes.
With DD my waters broke and had no contractions they allowed me home with strict instructions to take my temp every few hours and a date for induction. Anyway contractions started at home and only checked my temperature once before I was back at hospital because the pain was getting too much, she arrived 20mins after I arrived at the hospital.

I didn’t, rank stuff.
I had two quick, straightforward births though with no tears.

I had 2 very quick labours and no special tea.

EastDulwichWife · 13/04/2018 15:42

I've been told not to drink it before 36 weeks.

I'm 37 weeks today and was planning on going out to geťsome this weekend. My sister drank it from 37 with both her boys and she was right on time.

FrangipaniBlue · 13/04/2018 15:48

Started drinking it at around 36wks, braxton hicks on and off from 37wks, DS born at 39wks. From arriving at hospital to birth 6hrs, just gas and air and no stitches.

Don't know if it was entirely the RL tea or combination of that and gravity because I did lots of walking around!!

36 weeks earliest is the general recommendation where I am (an alternative-therapy loving country). They also recommend a tbsp of linseeds in your cereal or yoghurt from the same date for a nice elasticated cervix.
Who the hell knows if it works but saying as both are pretty healthy for you anyway then it's worth a shot, eh?!

ForeverHopeful21 · 13/04/2018 16:08

I've been drinking 2 cups a day since 37+2. I'm now 39+2 and no sign that baby is on the way yet.

I read some research that said eating dates in the last few weeks of pregnancy helped the active stage of labour. I had 3 a day and sometimes another 5, which was no hardship as I love them. My labour was very quick. Obvs I have no way of knowing if they helped but I like to think so! I will see if I can find the study now..
