35 weeks and so breathless. Should I be worried?

I’m so breathless all the time even when not doing anything. Just standing to make a cup of tea and I’m breathing hard. Making me feel awful. I never had this with my first. I know a bit of breathlessness is normal but does this sound a bit much? I’ve not had chest pain. Anyone else been totally out of breath all the time?
I’m going on holiday to Cornwall today (4 hour drive) and have a stomach bug too. Feel pretty sorry for myself!!

I couldn't read a story to my 2 year old at that stage without gasping for breath through very short sentences. But you should definitely get it checked out - I was and ended up having a few tests and then getting the all clear.

I'm the exact same, from about 28 weeks all I had to do was do the washing up and I'd be gasping for air! Just the joys of pregnancy I guess or position of baby. Get checked out though If it's worrying you x

Mrshand123 · 13/04/2018 13:34

I'm 30 weeks on Sunday and mines awful at the moment but I am asthmatic. I was on the phone the other night panting lol, baby is high up tho so I'm putting it down to that :)

elmo1980 · 13/04/2018 13:37

I had that at 28 wks and in my first pregnancy. Both times turned out to be low iron. Def get checked out though as can be signs of something more serious.

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 13/04/2018 13:38

I had this and had to call my GP in the end as I was worried it was pneumonia. It wasn't thankfully, just a very nasty virus flu

They had to rule out pulmonary embolism, which meant a trip to the hospital for some tests. Pregnancy is the main risk factor for PE so you really should get checked. Sitting in a car for 4 hours won't do you any good at all!!

FizzyFeet · 13/04/2018 13:40

Get checked! Might be nothing, might be something that needs action but for yourself and your baby's sake I'd call your midwife or maternity assessment unit. And if you do travel, take your maternity notes and don't let being out of your area prevent you seeking help if you need it.

Thanks so much for all for the advice. I e been without dog almpast few days so unable to update. I had a chat to my midwife before I left who reassured me that it’s highly likely to be normal as no chest pain but to keep a close eye and get seen if gets worse or develop pain. I’ve brought my notes with me on holiday and glad to say breathlessness has eased off a bit. So maybe baby’s dropped a bit! Needless to say I’m thinking it’s another normal shitty side effect of pregnancy. I really didn't appreciate how easy I had it with my first!!

34+ here and have been the same for a couple months.
Mine is due to low iron levels, and I've been prescribed some strong supplements.
You need iron to carry oxygen around the body so it makes sense.

readysetcake · 15/04/2018 17:36

Yeah I heard that about iron levels. Had mine checked on Tuesday and not heard from midwife, so assume they’re not an issue. Just a big baby up in my lungs I guess
