Hayfever

I'm 16+6 and beginning to feel the start of the annual hayfever bout. I asked my midwife at my 16 week appointment and she said she couldn't give me any advice, but I should ask a pharmacist. I've just come back from Boots where the pharmacist told me I couldn't take anything at all and would need a GP appointment to discuss things. I'm now waiting to try to get one. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with hayfever whilst pregnant?

I've just had a battle royale with my GP who refused to prescribe anything other than a steroid spray and an asthma inhaler (for reference, I'm usually on both of those plus two types of prescription only antihistamine, eye drops, a different nasal spray and a round of oral steroids).

NHS suggests Loratadine or Ceterizine if the steroid nasal sprays are not enough for you, and Piriton (chlorphenamine) is also safe but very sedating.

I'm currently taking Loratadine daily and Piriton at night, if that's any help

Im the same i take fexofenadine all year round and its actually safe in pregnancy so just had an argument about taking it. I was given some useless information too. Wash your face regular. Stay indoors. Drink more liquids. Thats all well and good but allergies dont care about water lol.

I find Prevalin (basic one) and Boots own that you inhale up your nose and act as a barrier are good. Very minimal chemicals in them. Haymax from Boots is good too.

My midwife said piriton was fine, just take as little as needed.

MY pharmacist refused me anything last year but the doctor was happy to give me a prescription for my usual tablets. It’s worth the seeing your GP. X

So confusing as there seems to be loads of conflicting advice! Had a chat with my GP, she's prescribed me some nasal drops but nothing else. It may be a looong summer!

Went to see my GP about this last week and refused to give anything as nothing is completely safe apparently :s

Nhs says loratidine and cetirizine is ok. You can buy them off the shelf in the supermarket

I took loritadine throughout my pregnancy - bought it off shelf
