Uterus growing too quickly

At my midwife's appointment yesterday, I was told my uterus is growing too quickly. Basically at my previous appointment, I was measuring a week ahead and now, 3 weeks later, I am measuring 2 weeks ahead. The midwife started talking about getting a scan done, when I started asking questions as to why, she became a bit elusive and vague. Has anyone else had this? What could it mean? This is my 5th pregnancy and I've never heard anything like this before...I'm 28 weeks now. I have to go back and see her in 2 weeks time where she will look again and go from there.

Ridiculous. Measuring before 28 weeks is inaccurate and even then a cm extra is just the difference in where you hold the tape measure. Go to the scan, enjoy looking at your baby and don’t worry about it. Do you have a growth chart? How are the measurements plotting? If you were all of a sudden measuring massive, then it could be an indication that you have too much fluid or you have gestational diabetes but it doesn’t sound like this is the case.

Agree with PP. Measuring over the bump is so inaccurate. In fact, I also found the measurement scans rubbish as well.

Oh good...this was my initial reaction, that it wasn't a big deal. But the reaction of the midwife made me wonder!

I don't have a growth chart, it was missing from my notes, so she said she would plot it all and we would have a look at the next appointment.

I'm not overweight and nothing has come up on my urines tests, so diabetes is unlikely and both scans have clearly shown 1 baby. I was just concered that if it's extra fluid, I won't get a home birth.

Thank you for the reassurance everyone...

It seems the midwife is making a bit of a fuss over nothing. Where I live, they won’t refer you for a growth scan unless you were 3cm out either way.

To give you some perspective on the reliability of FH measurement; when I was 28 weeks pregnant with my eldest, my FH measurement was 37cm (checked by 2 midwives). Several growth scans showed an average sized baby. My DS was a 6lb so the size of the bump definitely didn’t reflect the size of the baby. I also didn’t have any excess water, he was just lying in an odd position.

Where I live they also don't care if you're +/- 3cm. A lot of midwives 'do it by eye' 🙄 and at 33 weeks with twins they don't even pretend to measure!

So if I was you I wouldn't worry at all.

I don't think the concern was that I was 2cm bigger than my dates, more that the gap between my dates and the measurements are seemingly getting bigger and therefore growing more rapidly than I should.

I have always been bang on for all my other pregnacies. It's probably just my body telling me this needs to be the last one!

I started measuring 3 weeks behind in my first pregnancy and my GP referred me to hospital for a scan and it turned out I had ogliohydraminous and IUGR / had to be induced but she was fine, just a diddy 5lb. Turns out my placenta was breaking down. It might be nothing but always better to err on the side of caution and an extra scan is another opportunity to see your baby :)
All the best OP.

I'll just have to wait and see...fingers crossed!

Thank you.
