Pregnancy plus-bigger Mums to be

Hi there, I was searching for the topic I am looking for for the last hour but I gave up already :) Are there any Mums to be with BMI higher than 35? Or Mums who already gave birth being "big" during pregnancy? I am 31, my first pregnancy, 8 weeks pregnant. Scared and terrified that my weight can lead into miscarriage :( this is why I am looking for other ladies in similar situation to support each other :)

@TinyPawz yep! The Royal College of Midwives recommend it as a healthy eating plan to maintain weight and not lose it. It means I have two healthy extras a day and don't deprive myself but stick to 'good' foods and walking a lot to not put on piles of weight.

Hi @coffeeforone that is really helpful, thank you. I am really worried and can not wait for the scan, hopefully it will help me and I will be more relaxed after.

@TinyPawz I have a giant tubigrip (doubled over it covers me from bra strap to mid thigh) to wear as I have SPD (pelvic pain) Must say it smoothes everything out beautifully!

Never heard of a tubigrip. Off to google I go

Hello, how are you all feeling this Friday afternoon?
I just got back from my booking appointment. It only took 1 hour and 45 minutes and pretty much all of my self-control so I wouldn't burst into tears/ yell at the midwife.

She basically"measured" my height and weight and somehow managed to miraculously cut 2 cm off my height, making my BMI higher than it actually is... I pointed it out to her and she still insisted I was shorter than I am and she just put that down...
Then she asked me to do a carbon monoxide test and I refused as her office window was open and sooo much cigarette smoke was coming inside from those smoking just by her window that I was nearly sick! So I refused the test...
Then she asked me what birth I'd like to have and I firmly said C-section (due to a lot of circumstances I believe that is best for myself and the baby) and she started giving me the "we'll see what's best for you and what's best for baby and meet in the middle" talk and I repeated that I don't want a VBAC and I don't want them to try pressure me into a natural birth....
I don't feel great after seeing the midwife and I'm now worried this exagerated BMI will result in extra appointments that will stress me for no good reason.

I hope everyone else is having a better time and is ready to enjoy the weekend! Xx

Aww I feel so sorry for you @Confusedmummydotcom ... Luckily my first experience with midwife was better, but you need to make sure that you fight for yourself and remember they can not force you to natural birth. I think CC costs NHS a lot of money this is why they are trying, but you know what is the best for you and for the baby. Don't worry and just stay positive! Personally I am happy with couple of more appointments because of BMI as to get in touch with GP or midwife is almost impossible for me so I treat it as extra chance to see them and ask questions. Good luck! xxx

Hiya, i am 6+3 expecting first baby, i'm 27 and my bmi is 40 so am very nervous about what midwife is gonna say about it :(
Booking appointment is on 27th april

NellythePink · 13/04/2018 18:05

Hi, I am 38+1 and currently BMI 38. I was 33 at booking in.

I have struggled in the past couple of months with mega-SPD, which has obviously been made worse by the extra weight I am carrying. GTT was neg, and baby is fine.

Being so inactive and uncomfortable has made me really motivated to sort out my health after she is born...as soon as my GP says it is ok, I will be joining my local weight watchers, buying a fit bit and going to aqua aerobics. Want to be able to run around with my daughter as she grows up, and set her a good example.

Hi @Stargirl90 congratulations! Don't worry! If your midwife is professional and with good experience she would not say single word. Of course she will encourage you to the best possible healthy eating and moderate exercise, but she can't be rude to you. You will be fine :)
