Can't get hold of midwives

Told doctors I'm pregnant and they told me to ring the midwives team to organise everything. They aren't answering and I'm getting worried as I have a few questions about vitamin D as I am deficient and have to take tablets but I don't know if that's safe so I haven't taken them. I've left a message.

I believe you can take vitamin d tablets. Is there an option to leave a message?

booandbumpp · 09/04/2018 14:30

Sorry just seen that you've left a message. They should get back to you. But it looks like vitamin d supplements are recommended while pregnant!

sweetiehuni · 09/04/2018 14:32

Okay thanks for replying I'm just probably over worrying. Can't wait to get everything sorted xx

Have a read through the NHS site - it tells you what not to eat etc. Midwives didn't really go through it with me tbh they just told me to check the site x

You are supposed to take vitamin d supplements when pregnant, they recommend you do if you don't already.

I've been under two different midwife teams in the last few years and both operated a system of you ring and leave a message and they would ring you back when they got chance, usually a few hours later but if it's not urgent sometimes a day later.

You probably won't actually see a midwife until you are around 8 weeks pregnant. In the meantime the NHS info is good, try and avoid googling everything on top of that as it can lead you down all kind of pregnancy anxiety wormholes.

Look on the hospital website, there might be an online form that you can complete to refer yourself to the midwives.

You can take vitamin d whilst pregnant :) I am currently taking them and I am 35+6 and been taking them for a few weeks :) x

vitamin d is safe to take in pregnancy and it is very common in this country because of the climate so it’s not a bad idea to continue after birth. Any pregnancy multivitamin should cover you. My first pregnancy I spent a fortune on pregnacare, Tesco’s own is the same and half the cost of not cheaper.

I take a really high dose of vitamin d as I have MS. It’s totally fine to take as confirmed by my midwife and a consultant.

Flatwhite32 · 09/04/2018 19:44

@sweetiehuni I'm 25 weeks and have taken 1 vitamin D tablet a day (on the recommendation of the midwife) throughout the pregnancy. Congratulations by the way Smile.

sweetiehuni · 09/04/2018 20:31

That's reassuring to know thank you all very much xxxx

Pregnancy vits will not be adequate if you are diagnosed as having a vitamin D deficiency.

This is one for the GP. They can give you advice on what is suitable in pregnancy.
