So, this is a vile post and I apologise in advance!

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and was recently diagnosed with a UTI . I was given antibiotics for this, which have cleared the issue up, hurrah! Unfortunately in its wake the UTI has left me with the mother of all yeast infections down below, and my discomfort is unreal..

I've tried pregnancy approved creams, but they're not helping. :( so does anyone have any home-style remedies? I need it to go ASAP. I'm aware that thrush can be passed onto babies during birth, and the time is ticking on...

Natural live yoghurt - apply it externally, you can also soak a tampon in it for internal relief.

NoMudNoLotus · 07/04/2018 22:20

Ps i hope you feel better very soon 💐

GruffaloPants · 07/04/2018 22:25

Try taking a really strong probiotic.
You should be able to use a pessary (inserted by finger, not applicator). Ask your midwife first though. If it's really bad you might need a couple, a few days apart.

Justanotherzombie · 07/04/2018 22:28

Meh, it’s really uncomfortable but I had it for the last 3 months of my third pregnancy. Nothing shifted it! Gave birth and I don’t remember it even a day after labour and never since. Even in the next pregnancy.

Bluebirdsky · 07/04/2018 22:31

Definitely the live natural yoghurt

gryffen · 07/04/2018 22:50

Live natural yoghurt smother the area in and leave for at least 60 minutes (shove a film on or close the blinds if downstairs!)

A strong probiotic drink will help too.

I hate thrush - not sure what else lass apart from the above.

Jupiter15 · 08/04/2018 00:01

You can use a pessary, just put it in with your finger. It’s safe in pregnancy. Also take a strong probiotic eg. Acidophilus from Holland and Barratts

HollowTalk · 08/04/2018 00:02

Cut out all sugar and it will go away.

mommy2018 · 08/04/2018 00:06

The cream will not cure the thrush but treat the symptoms. The pessary is safe to use in pregnancy but u cant use the applicator (be warned there will be a mess in ur underwear as it breaks down). When I was pg with my 2nd dc the pessary did not work and my GP did prescribe the oral tablet, however, I was 38 weeks pregnant, had had thrush for 4 weeks (ie it wasn't going anywhere) and the increased risk of losing the baby at this gestation was minimal.
xx

You have my sympathy, it’s bloody awful 💐

Cut out as much sugar as you can, think ’low carb’ not just the obvious sugar - cut out fruit, bread, potatoes, etc. It thrives on sugar. I tried everything and sometimes they helped a bit, but cutting out sugar/carbs is the only thing that makes it go away for me, it does take a few days though.

For immediate relief I found that (tmi) the baby ‘water wipes’ folded in half lengthways and placed between the labia really helped, they’re really cold and bring relief, then dry with a fresh flannel and wear cotton pants (better still if you can just lay on the bed ‘airing’ - but when you get up, put pants on. Obviously avoid any sanitary protection and if you really need something try reusables, at a push the organic cotton pads Waitrose do.

aetw · 08/04/2018 07:26

Cut out all sugar and refined carbs✨! I’ve suffered with this since my teens and it’s the only way to shift it. The other effective way I found when I wasn’t pregnant...and this is a bit gross... was inserting a peeled and pricked piece of fresh garlic in to my front parts leave in for about 3 hours remove, and repeat if needed. It works like magic in 24 hours and I consulted my doctor who said that it was fine and better not to use chemicals as you can get BV with repeated use. But this was when I wasn’t pregnant. I’m not sure if you can do this when you are.
I know you can buy raw allicin capsules which is the yeast destroyer in garlic, but again do check you can use in pregnancy. I’m not a doctor so don’t know.
It is miserable so I understand how irritated you must be feeling. Good luck.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 08/04/2018 07:29

I also had this in pregnancy but had canesten pessary regularly. You need at least 3 used consecutive nights to.blitz it. In the end, after recurrent infections I was also diagnosed with Group B strep so make sure they also check for that.

Smellyjo · 08/04/2018 08:39

Also agree about the sugar, including fruit for a few days as it's what the infection thrives on. Cotton pants with regular changes. Avoiding scratching if possible! Canesten cream for relief from the itch. And optibac do a good live probiotic that is safe in pregnancy and for babies, expensive but could be worth a go. I had thrush close to my labour and worries about it too but DD was fine.

AndWhat · 08/04/2018 08:52

Yup nothing worked for me, the Midwife during labour said it looked ridiculously sore Blush. However since delivery all has been better in that area and the relief is amazing!

CremeDeSudo · 08/04/2018 09:02

Trying adding bicarbonate of soda to a bath and swoosh it around and up if possible!

I used to suffer with reoccuring thrush and swear by this!

MollyHuaCha · 08/04/2018 09:06

Hope one of the above remedies works for you.

gybegirl · 08/04/2018 09:14

Also iron your cotton knickers!

Daisy92 · 08/04/2018 11:02

Thank you so much, everyone! I'm going to try all of these and pray that the symptoms lessen.

All I want to do is scratch myself raw. It's GROTESQUE.

Drink actimel 😊

PixieN · 08/04/2018 11:12

I’ve suffered on & off with this since I was a teen. I found reducing sugar helped massively, including having lactofree milk. Also natural yoghurt - especially when it’s applied after being in the fridge. Too messy to insert though - for me anyway. Natural coconut oil works well too - I read somewhere that it can restore your natural PH. Again, if you put if in the fridge & it solidifies you can make little pessaries to insert just before bed.

For UTIs I make sure I drink plenty of water, especially before & after sex, go to the loo straight after & take cranberry supplements.

TheBananaStand2 · 08/04/2018 13:57

Poor you! I’ve been in the same situation. I only use femfresh or really natural (SLS and paraben free) washes, and I was once recommended a natural remedy called MamaNature Candida Treatment - blend of oils that you can use internally and externally. I found that stuff really helped - don’t know how (come) it worked, but it did! Bought it directly from their website. Good luck, OP. Hope you feel better soon.

LaurG · 09/04/2018 20:37

I used daktarin cream rather than caneston and it killed it in 24 hours. I had it instantly for 6-8 weeks and did countless pessarires, vagisil, yogurt nothing worked. I did check with my gp and she said daktarin was ok.

FallenAngel89 · 10/04/2018 07:47

I read everywhere to use wrights coal tar soap around the area as it's antiseptic and that helped too 😊

Nothisispatrick · 10/04/2018 10:48

Creams are just to stop itching aren't they? You need to use a proper treatment, the oral pill and the pessery from canestan should be safe but speak to midwife first. I used a pessery and just didn't put it really far up, cleared it up in a few days. Yogurt on the outside will ease symptoms but won't cure it.

AyeAyeFishyPie · 10/04/2018 12:47

DO NOT USE GARLIC!! It can lead to burns and all manner of hideous things.
