How long after c-section to get pregnant

My DD1 is 5 months old and we would like a second baby. However considering my age, I'm 40 next month and my husband is even older we feel like we don't have much time left to be honest. I ended up having a c-section with first baby and also had an operation to remove an ovarian cyst when I was pregnant last time, which may have potentially compromised my fertility a bit, the ovary is still there though.
Would it be too soon to get pregnant again in the next couple of months? I'm aware it can't very good for me or the next baby, but we want another one so desperately.

My GP said 6months but couldn't find anything official. 6 months seemed to be the general consensus online as well. In the end we started to TTC seriously after 6 months and confirmed 2nd cycle. It'll be around 14 months post section when I'm due again providing all goes well but I will be having another section (already had 2). I think they might recommend another section anyway if you have had one recently.

Conceived not confirmed 2nd cycle

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope all goes well. That's what I also considered, but wanted to hear other mums experiences

I started trying at 7 months but would have started at 5 if not breastfeeding. I'm 42 with one 9 month old. Conceived our second baby the first month of TTC (fertility is higher after having a baby- true for us) but sadly had a silent miscarriage last week. I think it's almost certainly because of a chromosome problem. At our age not all our eggs will be viable I suppose. Start now to give yourself enough time. I had a csection and as far as I've read you'll be fine as long as you don't have a vbac which is where the risk of rupture comes in. Plenty of women have barely a year between sections. I doubt it's ideal but I was more worried about the strain on my mineral levels etc. I'm trying straight away after my D &C next week but the stress of time running out is the worst of it. I wouldn't waste a day in your position. Good luck!

PetraRabbit..really sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Very useful post, thank you. I hope you succeed at getting pregnant again and have another baby.

I agree the stress of not having enough time is a killer, but I unfortunately didn't find the right partner until I was over 38 yo, which I assume it's the case for a lot of women.

I got pregnant 7 months after c section and I'm going for a vbac. At no point has any midwife or gp warned against either. If you're recovered, fit and healthy then why not?!

Good luck op.

The doctor that did my emcs told me to wait at least 12 months but ideally 18 months before getting pregnant again.

However I was only 29 at the time, had a pretty horrific time and didn't cope well at all, so don't know if any of that factored into her advice. I'm sure plenty of women are fine with much less time between pregnancies. All the best to you whatever you decide.
