I cannot stop worrying pregnant with 2nd child and I just can't switch the worrying off about everything I don't know if it's the hormones heightening my emotions or what. I am drained 😫

Oh you poor thing.

I was like this with my pregnancy, but a lot of the anxiety was due to previous MC’s, if you are really anxious speak to your midwife discuss your fears see if there’s anything that will help ease the anxiety.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I have suffered with anxiety before I got pregnant and since being pregnant I've been anxious about so many things. If your worried about anything/anxious then you can speak to a specialist midwife about it. I have and she has been fantastic! Big hugsFlowers

I don’t know if this helps, but it made me feel better when i was anxious in pregnancy - apparently studies have been done that show that elevated stress is men at the time of conception results in more chilled out children - the rational appears to be that the sperm/foetus is effected by a raised level of adrenelin (or whatever other hormones are expressed in stress) but when nothing bad happens their developing body basically goes “oh, it’s alright after all - no need to have been so worried” which means they have a more relaxed reaction to stress hormones/chemicals themselves throughout life. I have no idea if the same thing is true of maternal worry, but i always fondly hoped it was. Smile

Anything in particular you’re worrying about?

Lmj25 · 06/04/2018 21:34

@GreenthoughtInAGreenShade well i do hope that's true they'd be so laid back haha. I'm literally worrying about everything convinced myself I have a blood clot earlier now I've headache but I think that is because I've done nothing but stress all day every day. I have the choice to see a mental health midwife think I may opt to as I think I'm making myself ill with worry 🙁

Health mainly I've been having spotting past few week so that's been on my mind constantly everytime I go to the toilet I'm on edge if something else is there. Had a scan they found a heartbeat however it started again this week so got another scan Tuesday. Had a pelvic exam and they said everything looks normal/healthy so that's ok I guess. But now I think it's a cycle as I'm worrying then feeling the effects of all of it and that's making me worry more. Sorry for going on

Yup. I suffer from generalised anxiety and hypochondria (health anxiety), and the health anxiety has definitely extended to worrying about the health of my baby. I've spent a lot of time observing every little bodily sensation, utterly convinced that there's something wrong or that my baby isn't ok. It's very mentally taxing, and has driven me mad! Worrying about my bump being too small and this meaning that my baby isn't growing properly, obsessing about the number of kicks/movements I feel, worrying about strange discharge and it meaning that I'm either going into preterm labour or that I have some kind of infection that'll harm the baby, obsessing about and taking extreme measures to avoid cold/flu/bug germs. My OCD has rocketed because of the latter!

Lmj25 · 07/04/2018 06:28

I'm the exact same I've never known anything like it 😫 I was bad with OCD before hand aswell now it's terrible I was terrified of germs over winter and sickness bugs etc I know they're part and parcel of cold weather but I would worry all day everyday I even sleep with a anti bacterial gel at the side of my bed😂 it's never ending.

I was horrendously anxious during pregnancy. Definitely speak to the mental health midwife, she may be able to do a referral for CBT.

Look after yourself Cake

WreckItRach · 07/04/2018 10:06

@Lmj25 I am exactly the same! My mum even said to me to speak to the midwife at my appointment next Friday. It seems like as soon as I hit the third trimester I have just been worried and anxious of anything going wrong. I try and distract myself as much as possible. I hope you are ok and it passes xx

Lmj25 · 07/04/2018 10:10

It's a shame isn't it really because it puts a dampener on the whole thing 🙁 I'm only in 1st trimester so think I definitely need to speak to midwife as don't want to carry on like this for the rest of it I'll be sending myself round the bend lol. I hope you are too and best of luck!xxx
