Hi,
I’m 26 years old and after 10 months of TTC we are finally expecting our first baby - due in October.
I am currently 11 weeks pregnant and really suffering with tiredness and sickness. I am scared to go to the doctors as I am worried I will be sent to the hospital for dehydration treatment.
I have had to take time off work due to the illness and find myself bed bound but I feel like a complete failure - I just don’t know why I have to be ill all the time and I have no one that I can talk to who has suffered like this (everyone seems to swan through pregnancy).

Has anyone else had to take time off work? Has anyone else felt like a failure? I need advice Sad

Have a look at the hypermesis thread OP, lots of sickness and support there.

I had to stop working at 16 weeks for the remainder of my pregnancy. It is also my first. The most useful thing I’ve learned so far is that pregnancy does not necessarily go the way you had planned in your head. I thought I’d be working right until the end, keeping up my exercise routines etc.

You're tired, sick, hormonal and emotional so it's no wonder you feel down! But you're not a failure at all! Go to the dr and see if they can help, and if you need time off so be it. There is a reason why pregnancy related sickness doesn't count towards your usual sickness leave and avoids you being reprimanded. It's a massive strain on our bodies. As PP said I expected to keep up with exercise regimes etc but with sickness, pelvic pain, exhaustion, there is just no way I could! Give yourself a break - you're growing a whole other human!

Thank you for your replies.

It’s a bad time for me to take time off work atm as we are buying a house - luckily my partner is very supportive and understanding.

I am going to go to the doctors first thing Monday morning. In the meantime, should I call my midwife? I’m not even sure what you can call for...
