Hi, just wanted to know when other people started buying baby things.
I’m 21 weeks now and haven’t brought anything yet.
I’m not looking to buy pram or cot until nearer the due date as there big items.
When is the best time to buy baby clothes, bottles, nappies, wipes etc xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I am also 21 weeks but this is my 2nd so I don't need a great deal.
First time round I got my pram at about this time but kept it at MIL house. I think I pretty much had everything by 30 weeks tbh.
This time round I've already got my double pram but am using it as a single for the moment

I'm 30+4 and we have all of our big things now. We held off on buying any of the little bits unless there was a great sale on because we felt like we will get some bits as gifts off family and friends so we focused on the big things.

After 20 weeks, I bought nappies/wipes and bits and bobs when they were on offer. Baby weeks at supermarkets etc. Then just kept an eye on furniture deals, and bought that about 35 weeks! Every pay day I just tried to buy whatever was on offer. Worked out ok Grin

Shutupanddance1 · 06/04/2018 15:12

I’m on my second pregnancy but if you wanted to start off small you could buy some nappies/wipes every few weeks from here on? I’m 30 weeks and bought enough size 1 for about 10 days, and more in size 2.

I picked up stuff along the way, mainly as I bought at second hand baby sales etc. some baby shops do deposit systems for prams etc?

Holycrapwhatnow · 06/04/2018 15:26

I'm a bit superstitious about buying things for the baby in advance after a few losses, so always leave it late! Even first time around I knew what I wanted for everything by around 30 weeks but bought my stuff a few weeks after that, mostly online and a bit from IKEA, and painted around the same time. Unless you are ordering a major nursery set with long lead time, the rest comes pretty quickly and can be put together fast.
Dd1 arrived a bit early and DH did have to order the car seat while I was in labour, but otherwise we ended up pretty organised!

For the rest I've done it around 34 weeks.

I'm 25+3 and so far have bought the cot, wardrobe, chest of drawers, and paint for the nursery but that is only because the furniture we got a really good price 2nd hand on facebook (£265 for a £3000 set in really good condition!) but we wont be decorating until my 3rd trimester as I think il feel a bit better doing it a bit later on.
We are ordering the travel system tomorrow but that's only because my parents are buying it and the one I want keeps getting sold out so we need to act fast Grin
To be honest I am only worrying about the big stuff for now, all the small stuff il leave until I go onto maternity leave.

Thanks ladies.

I’m thinking to wait a little longer then as it’s finding somewhere to store everything as im due to move as well such a stressful time.

All the best with your pregnancies xxxx

We got cot and pram at 20-21 weeks, but only because stuff came up second hand at a good price. Also we're having twins, so options are more limited. I'm not sweating the cheaper stuff until later: if we need anything in a hurry we can buy new without breaking the bank.

Bluebirdsky · 06/04/2018 16:25

I am 28 weeks and we already have the cot, bedside crib and travel system, we have been trying to buy one big thing each month after payday to spread the cost including a bigger car!!

KMS8985 · 06/04/2018 17:27

Thanks ladies.

Which prams did everyone go for.

You can tell I a first time mum lol all these questions.

I like the idea of a travel system and I like the venicci travel system.

Can anyone recommend a good brand xx

I got an icandy strawberry. I got so overwhelmed by the choice/reviews and pushy sales people, I just chose the one based on the colour! Confused with my first I had a Quinny Buzz but found it a bit bulky! We've kept that for off road adventures! 😂

Aria2015 · 06/04/2018 17:36

I got my stuff pretty close to due date and didn't get much. We got given a lot after lo was born and newborns don't do much didn't need much more than clothes. As lo got bigger I ordered toy type items. I also did LOADS of online shopping in the middle of the night when I was up feeding. A gals gotta do something lol!

GottaBeStrong · 07/04/2018 00:04

I'm 29+3 and have just ordered everything - pram, car seat, moses basket, bedding, clothes, bath support, changing mats, and nursing pillow - because it was all on offer due to it being Easter.

I still need to get nappies and wipes, maternity pads, big knickers, nursing nighties, nusing bras and nipple cream etc but will slowly do that now in the run up to the birth. I feel I have enough time to spread this out now.

Interestingly, most women I know who are due around same time as me had bought everything or nearly everything weeks ago!

caseymoo · 07/04/2018 08:53

KMS it really depends where you live and what lifestyle you have, i.e do you have a dog to walk or like to go off-roading? Or do you live in a city and need a more compact one?
Also to consider (I know, I know, I hated being asked when I had just had dd if I was having another!) if you are likely to want more children with a smallish age gap what about a pram than can be a single or a double?

KendalMintCakey · 07/04/2018 09:00

caseymoo has brill advice. If you want to save money then aldis nappies are brilliant and they come in jumbo packs that can last up to 2 weeks.

Have a look in Argos. They had a pram with carrycot and seat unit from Mamas & Papas for £154 (which is sooo cheap for M n P mine was 1K) and you could buy separately the car seat and adaptors. I'd recommend getting the base unit.

Bluebirdsky · 07/04/2018 10:21

We went to a baby show in London recently it was a great way to see lots of different travel systems/prams and other baby products all under one roof. There were also some great show deals on. We got our pushchair, carrycot, car seat and isofix base for the same price that just the pram sells for in Mothercare.
If there is one on in your area I would definitely recommend a baby show.

lozbeth · 07/04/2018 13:31

@KMS8985 I have already bought a few clothes I'm 14 weeks already bought a pram but it's not in house yet due to paying in instalments. I've had things gifted to me and some are in the house. I was suspicious but I think there old wife's tales to be honest as anything can happen it doesn't matter weither you buy things or not.
