RLS - First Trimester

It's driving me mad. All over my body and is keeping me up for hours at night and causing issues during the day too (like now, when I'm trying to work!).

I keep reading that it's common in pregnancy, but they generally go on to say that it's common in the third trimester. I'm only 8 weeks.
I did go cold turkey from my high-dose anti anxiety medication as soon as i found out, which is causing all sorts of other problems.

Was wondering if anyone else had RLS quite badly early on in pregnancy or if it might be medication-related?

I doubt there's much that can be done about it either way, but it could be a very long seven months ahead of me if it's pregnancy related!

I had it first trimester. Couldn't sleep and it was infuriating! Went away on its own in the second trimester though and hasn't come back since. Maybe yours will do the same?

@Addy2 Hugely reassuring to hear it went away. Thank you! I didn't have it with my first at all.

Can you not stay on the meds when pregnant for your anxiety......?

I got a "chillow " like a cooling pillow that I used to put on my legs which helped a bit....I'm sure there's a supplement that helps......but annoyingly I can't remember which one sorry!!!

@Usercantsleep thank you for the suggestions. The chillow sounds amazing!

It would be preferred by my GP if I stayed on them. But I was on a lower dose for the duration of my last pregnancy and we had anomalies. All consultants stress that they were unrelated. But it was just a non negotiable for me to be off them this time. It's a huge struggle, but at least I know if anything happens this time too it's definitely not that.

Yes I really suffer from it! And did too in the last trimester of my last pregnancy. Had a horrendous night the night before last and started researching loads of sleep remedies. I think when I remember to take a magnesium supplement it's not as bad. Also banana before bed (potassium supposed to be good for it) and tried out the lush sleepy body lotion last night too. Slept pretty well but that could have been because I was SO shattered from the night before. All worth a try though!

Gotcha. I understand your reasons....

Drinking shitloads of water helped as well.....but then you have to do about 100 pees during the night!!!

Tonic water can help although if you want to be totally pure through pregnancy then don't !

Oh god I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm only 5+1 so still really early days, but I've been really struggling with restless legs for the past 2 week! It must have started literally as soon as I conceived lol! I get RLS anyway so didn't really think much if it until it carried on getting worse and mire persistent. And I was the same as you, when I googled it, everything told me it was common in third trimester. I kept thinking there's no way I can go 9 months with no sleep Lol! I have slept a but better the last 2 nights, but I agree, I think it was sheer exhaution. I'm going to try the banana before bed approach. Let's hope it works and we can get some sleep! Good luck!
