Strange advice at booking appt?

At my booking appointment today I was told that I mustn’t wear nursing bras before 30 weeks. The midwife said it was new guidance and she now had to tell everyone.

I laughed and said that I’d already started wearing them because they’re so much more comfortable!

Has anyone else been told this? What’s the matter with nursing bras?!

Wtf? No. That’s not real advice at all. Is it possible you misheard her and she said don’t bother buying one until 30 weeks as your boobs change so much before that? I usually stick to soft, non wired crop top type things until I buy mine. I haven’t been able to wear a wired bra since I was 4 weeks, before I even had my BFP my boobs hurt so much this time

Ha ha ha I never stopped wearing mine from the last pregnancy - DD self weaned when I conceived this one and I'm not going to buy new bras for the hell of it!

Maybe it’s about not buying them too soon because you will probably get bigger? (Though I had to get more after the milk arrived anyway as I got even bigger)

I've heard guidance not to buy before 36/7 weeks, but from bra fitters, not medical practitioners. It's a practicality thing, nothing to do with safety or anything of the like. Basically leaveit as late as you can so they're more likely to be the correctsize when you actually need them [confuesd]

Feck with the typos again! Sorry!

I can't imagine any reason why it would be official advise, maybe she said it as they're not as supportive (IME)?
I tried them with DD1 and went back to normal bras after a few days, really didn't find them as comfortable for some reason!

Well I’m a midwife and I’ve not heard this,

I remember having to fib to the bra people in mothercare about how pregnant I was because they were militant about not selling me a bra before I think 36 weeks as I’d just need a new one. Funnily enough I didn’t.

Advice*

Glad it’s not just me that found it strange. Weird that my midwife said it was something she had to say to everyone. I asked her why and she was unsure-said it was something to do with lack of support. I said it was probably propagated by bra manufacturers so we had to buy more bras! My old nursing bras are super comfy.

Also, if lack of support is such a bad thing, why aren’t there more rules about sports bras? That’s one thing I miss when pregnant: any form of exercise that involves a bounce because I know my stretchy, comfy bras can’t handle that!

I couldn't stand my nursing bras. I switched to a non padded lace design when DS was a few months old, and just booked my boob over the top.
