Bump at 9 weeks? (Pic)

First time mummy here. Pregnant twice before but both ended in miscarriage sadly. I'm used to having a pretty flat stomach and have always been slim, however in the past week or so I seem to have gotten a lot bigger. I've even been asked by a complete stranger when I'm due! Could this really be bloat? My belly is huge! Hard to touch and I don't really feel bloated. Just hard to believe this is a baby bump as a lot of people claim it's impossible as early as 9-10 weeks... (sorry, wouldn't let me attach photos as only been on here two weeks or so! They are legitimate photos but understand if people don't want to click on them). I'm happy either way, just can't believe how big I am and if it really is bloating then I'm astonished!

Thanks all Smile

Congratulations! Looks like bloating to me - mine looked the same, especially towards the end of the day. You will probably feel like it's deflated in the next few weeks and then one day you will have a 'proper' bump appear from nowhere!

BodgingThisMumThing · 05/04/2018 10:30

That does look like a bump because it starts right under your boobs, rather than bloating.
Mine was like that but then stayed that way until I was 7 ish months, then I got HUGE.
Everyone is different.

Or you’re having a multiple pregnancy Wink congrats!!!!

Not sure images worked, sorry!

Could be bloating. I was like that with my first pregnancy. Then after 12 weeks I went back to my normal slim size till the baby bump really started.
Mind you then my second pregnancy was twins and I was like you from 8 weeks!

Nickitta · 05/04/2018 10:31

@PrimeraVez @BodgingThisMumThing two different opinions... interesting! Thank you. So bizarre not knowing what's going on with your own body...

@kktpj twins! That would be amazing but trying not to speculate too much on that one 🙈

Mine was like that, it was bloating but I went straight from bloat to bump rather than the bloat calming down and then getting a bump! Everyone commented on the fact they were sure I was having twins as I was so obviously pregnant so early on with my first but there is definitely only one in there lol!

I am now VERY obviously pregnant at 25+2, and have been since around 12-14 weeks, I was in maternity trousers at around 12 weeks as I couldn't bare anything touching tightly on my belly! Normally a size 10 :)

Nickitta · 05/04/2018 11:46

Thanks @0310Star and congrats!

I honestly just can't believe how huge I am! Did you try and hide it early on? People can be so judgemental and I don't really want people rolling their eyes when I'm telling them I'm big because I'm pregnant and only 9-10 weeks (though more likely 13 when I tell people!).

LisaSimpsonsbff · 05/04/2018 11:48

I looked just like that from about weeks 8-13 - it was definitely bloating because then it went away and then about 8 weeks later I started to get an actual bump. Even if you were having twins you wouldn't have a baby bump like that yet - two tiny things in you doesn't make you that much bigger than one tiny thing!

ILikeMyChickenFried · 05/04/2018 11:49

It's probably a gas baby right now. My twins didn't give me a bump until 14 weeks or so.

Nickitta · 05/04/2018 11:51

Thanks @LisaSimpsonsbff @ILikeMyChickenFried Smile

How did you essentially 'hide' your bloatedness? I work in such a stuffy office and jumpers are not an option. If it was an actual baby bump I would want to show it off but feel a bit silly flaunting my big gassy belly! 🙈

OP posts:
0310Star · 05/04/2018 12:01

@Nickitta I managed to hide it until 12 weeks under baggy jumpers, I was so ill and miserable though and trying my hardest to stay in my normal clothes as I felt a bit of a fraud as I was only just 3 months pregnant! But when I gave in and started buying clothes more comfortable and able to not have to hide it anymore I was much happier, I am not a baggy clothes type of person and I think it made me all round more miserable as I just felt fat and frumpy lol

I am convinced my baby is going to be a bit of a monster! Confused

Nickitta · 05/04/2018 12:05

@0310Star bless your cottons! My clothes are all very clingy as I have a super flat stomach and carry most of my weight on legs and bum! If I was further along I would just let it hang out but like you I feel like a huge fraud at the moment. I was asked yesterday by a stranger when I'm due!

Hope all goes well with you and your little (or not so little) one Thanks

I had this problem too as I'm pear shaped so almost everything I own is fitted at the waist, as that's normally my best feature. I also, for various reasons including work stuff coming up and previous miscarriages, really, really didn't want anyone to guess before I was ready to tell. I found wearing a blazer was my best tactic - basically any jacket that makes it hard for someone to see your stomach side-on. Long scarves also helpful (but they have to be long enough to cover stomach, not finish on it). Big jumpers do the trick but as said don't make you feel very stylish (and may not be smart enough for your work - they weren't for me). I found dresses a lot more comfortable than trousers, and more chance of skimming over stomach. Also, just try not to be self-conscious about it - lots of people get this bloated when they just eat wheat or similar! - as that tends to mean you fuss about with the clothes over your stomach, and it's that stomach touching which is the neon 'pregnancy' sign, not how you actually look.

Juststrugglingabit · 05/04/2018 12:48

You're not a fraud, you are pregnant and your belly is bigger than usual! Personally I rocked the bloat and wore maternity clothes from when I needed them so that I was comfy, I didn't really notice when it turned into bump to be honest. Bump is softer for me.

Mind you, at 29 weeks I'm huge and my baby is 'well grown' in the works of my consultant, so who knows, maybe your growing a big bonny monster baby!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 05/04/2018 12:54

You're not a fraud, you are pregnant and your belly is bigger than usual!

This is of course true - as I said, I had my own reasons for hiding it, but you may want to embrace and that's perfectly valid! What I will say though is that people are weird about telling you you're 'too big' - I'm now 25 weeks and people keep guessing I'm further along and get weirdly cross when I tell them, no, I'm not seven (or even eight!) months, I'm not yet six. So you might well get some Hmm if you wear mat clothes at 9 weeks - that's their issue not yours and you should ignore it, but just to warn, people seem to love telling pregnant women if they're the 'right size' (women who carry small also seem to be hassled about it!).

0310Star · 05/04/2018 13:00

I must admit the 'fat' jokes are starting to wear thin! I work in an office full of men who seem to think its funny to comment on how huge I am constantly, and even though its not fat it is still rather annoying!

Uiscebeatha85 · 05/04/2018 15:45

No way that’s a bump, your uterus is the same size and embryo is still tiny at 9 weeks. 💯 bloat

Girlwiththearabstrap · 05/04/2018 16:25

It's quite common to feel a bit bloated/swollen in the first trimester, but the baby is a few centimetres long and pretty deep in your pelvis still so it's likely to come and go for a while and then turn into an actual baby bump when the baby grows bigger. I'm surprised a complete stranger asked when you were due though, you aren't that big! I'm not even being asked that at 36 weeks!

Foggymist · 05/04/2018 17:01

It's bloat, baby is still tucked far down in your pelvis and is absolutely tiny, it physically can't be a baby bump.

Nickitta · 05/04/2018 17:06

@Girlwiththearabstrap I was pretty surprised also! I did have a very tight top on. It's the reason I asked this question.

I'm the same! I'm 14 weeks now but have been like this for a fortnight! I'm a teacher and I was worried about the kids noticing! I went to the charity shops and bought some dresses a size up that are looser and NOT my usual style at all! Like you I am usually a slim size 10 and prefer clingy clothes to show off my waist and flat stomach... def not an option any more! Go shopping and just see what works! Oh and congratulations :)

GreenMeerkat · 05/04/2018 18:09

I've been showing since 8 weeks but it's my third pregnancy so I think my uterus is just thinking 'oh God, here we go again' and popping out early.

Could be bloating, could be bump. Every woman and pregnancy is different.

GreenMeerkat · 05/04/2018 18:12

@Foggymist not necessarily, baby may be tiny but at 9 weeks the uterus is the size of a small melon so could be showing already depending on body type.

FranticallyPeaceful · 05/04/2018 19:17

Definitely bloat but it’s all for the same reason, to Home your baby! I bloat out like this during early pregnancy too, my pelvic shape and the way my womb lies makes me look huge as it just flops it all out front - also later in pregnancy I look much bigger because of the same reason. I carry very far out front... it might be the case with you too, so the bloating is just also more obvious!
