First pregnancy - anxious!

This is our first pregnancy, we're over the moon, but I keep seeing stories of miscarriages which have me worried!
I know so many women go through them, just wondered if there's a turning point in the pregnancy when the chances of MC drop off significantly?
Am only 6 weeks in, so still a way to go! Thanks in advance 😊

Once a heart beat has been seen the chance reduces (was told this at a 7 week scan) and then with each week the risk drops. Most miscarriages happen by 8 weeks and a massive percentage by the end of the first trimester I think.

The risk is lowest at the end of the first trimester, particularly once you’ve seen the heartbeat at the 12 week scan. Hope everything goes ok for you Flowers.

I was exactly the same as you to the point where I didn't want to go to my 12 week scan because I was convinced they weren't going to find a heatbeat! In fact, it was all totally fine and baby was kicking its legs about on the screen. JUst try and remember that for every miscarriage stroy you hear, there are dozen of positives stories that you don't hear about. I hope everything works out for you

I don't know if this helps but this size gives probability of miscarriage by day and tweaks the data to give more accurate results if you enter information about yourself. You can see that the risk drops fast. Most pregnant woman will have a live birth. I know it's difficult, but try and stay positive.

I really recommend the link posted by @oysterbabe. It's kept me sane! Also interesting that there is no sudden drop off of miscarriage risk at 12 weeks, it's much more of a gradual tapering.

GrumpyPantz · 05/04/2018 11:33

Worrying won't stop it happening. If anything the stress is bad for the baby. Enjoy your pregnancy and don't worry about things you have no control over.

It's so hard not to overthink and be anxious, I was very anxious the first time around and was just as scared of miscarrying this time with baby 2! But worrying really doesn't add anything to your life or the outcome of a pregnancy. I would say TRY not to read too much online as it will fill your mind with statistics etc. This isn't always helpful. I got through the early weeks just a day at a time, and what will be will be. And do remember that although it is sadly a common occurance, the majority of pregnancies DO go on to be healthy full term babies. If you're going to look at stats then remind yourself they are on your side!

@Oysterbabe I looked st the link you suggested, and it was really reassuring, thanks.

Thanks everyone for your comments! Feeling much better, but will be glad when I've had my first midwife appointment - I expect it will start to feel very real then!

Hope all your pregnancies are going well! 💐
