I am. I'm not sure it's a good idea. 🙈🙈

If you can find it, watch the American version of One Born Every Minute. Your birth will never be as bad as some of those. One had all the family members on both sides present in the room and then the mums had a punch up while the woman was actually pushing!

Lilonetwo · 05/04/2018 07:05

I actually thought OBEM was a good insight into birth. Mine was quite complicated and so watching it was helpful.

Bananarama12 · 05/04/2018 07:06

I watched it leading up to the end of my pregnancy. It's very misleading. Much worse than the programme 😂😂

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 05/04/2018 07:28

It's so misleading. For a start it's FAR too short.

Not convinced anyone would watch it but would be more realistic if they did it just live. Folk would get bored after the first 12 hour.

BluePony · 05/04/2018 07:34

I think OBEM makes it look easier than it is in some ways! No stitches, blood clots in uterus etc.

LeighaJ · 05/04/2018 07:47

I've never watched a single video or show of a woman giving birth, I don't see the point other then to scare myself.

When we went to the hospital recently because our baby stopped moving (she's okay) we were sitting in the labour ward waiting room and heard the most blood curdling screams we've ever heard every few seconds for several minutes, then silence, then a baby crying. There was no camera crew there, not sure why anyone would think a woman was just putting on an act that it hurts. Hmm

Emma198 · 05/04/2018 08:09

Last night they showed a woman who had been there since Wednesday and had her baby on Monday so not sure I agree that they make all births look short! Also last week the lady lost a huge amount of blood but then there are some labours where it seems so easy(!) It's always been one of my favourite programmes but it's taken on a whole new meaning now I'm pregnant!

The reality is often worse than OBEM IME. You never see doctors wrenching heads out with forceps. You never see or hear about 3rd degree tears. Exorcist style vomiting up the walls is carefully edited out.

jamoncrumpets · 05/04/2018 09:16

Oh yes and totally agree that they make births look short. You could be labouring in there for DAYS.

wonderstar1216 · 05/04/2018 09:21

Oh they pulled the other day, the poor woman I couldn't believe how much they were yanking on that babies head. I crossed my legs!

Oysterbabe · 05/04/2018 09:44

I watched it when pregnant with my 2. I didn't expect my birth experience to be like it and it wasn't. I wasn't a screamer and was very calm, would have made for boring TV.

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 05/04/2018 13:30

Yeh I know they show long labours but... they don't show the reality of being awake for 2 days straight AND in labour

TTCI · 05/04/2018 20:30

@Emma198 thank you! Xx

WasThatPlaceTHESUN · 05/04/2018 21:15

I watched it loads before I had DD and it never bothered me, I didn't find the idea of labour that scary. I had a very straight-forward natural birth but for some reason I just can't watch it now, brings back bad memories of the pain I guess!

60sname · 05/04/2018 21:25

My labour was 'normal and non-eventful' -relatively short, required only gas and air and I look back on it with a sense of relief. In fact the midwife described it as 'textbook'. Nonetheless, there was still screaming, puking and stitches required afterwards.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 05/04/2018 21:46

I watched it when I had pregnancy insomnia as one of the series was filmed at the hospital I gave birth at. Found it weirdly reassuring and gave me an idea of what to expect. Was weird seeing the same staff on TV that were in the hospital. Still one of my favourite programmes to watch now

PlowerOfScotland · 06/04/2018 10:02

Course the women scream, you never had a tour round the labour ward? When your baby's crowning, tell the midwife all those other women are just drama loving softies.

ShirlySue · 06/04/2018 10:33

I'm pg with my first, and don't tend to watch it. Might do for 10 mins if it's on but find it a bit boring. Have watched lots of very graphic childbirth videos online and on YouTube - much prefer and doesn't scare me at all!

Addy2 · 06/04/2018 11:14

Not me! I don't need that in my life right now, lol.

Ninjamilo · 06/04/2018 12:22

No chance, they're obviously going to pick the most dramatic births to show.

People in real life like giving their bad stories enough as it is, I'm not going to deliberately subject myself to more 😃

BertieBotts · 06/04/2018 12:25

It came out after I'd had my first so I was probably lucky Grin

My antenatal teacher asked us to video it so she could include clips in her classes!

I didn't know there was a new series, must get on that :)
