Please could anyone who has taken these in pregnancy let me know how they found them and what any side effects were? I'm 9+5 weeks and really struggling with nausea and vomiting, the nausea in particular is just debilitating, even standing up makes me dizzy. I'm due to start a new job in a fortnight and I also have a DS 8 months (not great timing all round, admittedly). Grateful to hear others' experiences and any tips.

I was prescribed Cariban which was fantastic, no side effects except that I stopped being sick all the time!

I have been on ondansetron since I was 8 weeks - now 28 weeks - they have been a lifesaver. From 8 - 14 weeks I was taking them every 6 hours religiously. If I was 5 minutes late I was heaving! I was v busy at work and travelling a lot and it helped me soldier on.

Now I just have one first thing in the morning - means I can get on with the day without the daily bile vom I had every day of my first pregnancy up til the day I had DS Sad

I ran out last week and thought I'd probably be okay - I was not ok. Had to go home and lie in bed til I could get a script filled.

Honestly it's been a lifesaver for me this pregnancy - definitely recommend.

I've been on 3 this pregnancy due to HG - cyclizine, metocloprimide and ondansetron. The only side effect I've had is very bad constipation and resulting in really terrible piles, but it's a small price to pay to stop the sickness.

I have had cyclizine- dry mouth, restless at night and drowsy, but calmed the sickness.
And before that Metroclopramied, made my heart race, didn’t help with the sickness and made me feel frantic. It’s eeally hard, at 12 weeks I’m just starting to feel more normal! X

Thank you all so much, great to hear positive experiences too! GP appointment tomorrow and now I feel much more prepared. Thank you.

Definitely ask your GP for some meds, they will most likely start you on cyclizine as a first line treatment but do go back if they aren't effective as there are lots you can try that are safe to take. The pregnancy sickness support website has a very useful list of the available treatments and possible known side effects. Most people find odansetron to be the most effective but GPs are reluctant to prescribe as it is expensiveso you will probably have to go through a few others first. GPs attitudes to meds vary enormously, I hope they will be supportive but be ready to push for meds if necessary if they try to tell you it's normal and to put up with it - you absolutely shouldn't have to if you are struggling. Also take a little comfort in the fact that you are almost certainly going through the worst bit at the moment and it should start to improve soon. I unfortunately was one of the very unlucky few who suffered throughout but it was never as bad as those early weeks, so you have likley survived the worst. It is absolutely horrible but you will get through it Flowers.
