Stocking up?

I'm in the middle of getting my 'nest' ready for baby's arrival, and wondered if there's anything that you've all stocked up on to make the first few weeks easier?

Not necessarily baby related (I have nappies/wipes/formula ready but am aware that we may have to change brands if they don't suit). I'm thinking more along the lines of household goods, toiletries, tinned stuff etc lots of people seem to batch cook and freeze but I only have an under counter freezer so not much room to do this!

Washing powder/tablets! They get through a lot of washing for something so little! And teabags/biscuits - we got so many visitors first month or so. Also some nice bubble bath/face masks when you need a half hour to chill out and have some alone time xx

Some good suggestions there New, thanks!
I did wonder about tea/coffee/juice, would hate to be running out if we have visitors Smile

I've just wrote my shopping list for stocking up! Just from experience from when we had our first, I thought it would be a good idea this time.
We've got 200 nappies already 😂 they were on offer at Asda so grabbed 2 boxes!
We're also planning on stocking up on tinned foods...beans, soups etc. Pot noodles, pasta, rice, crisps, squash, cereal, cereal bars, bake in the oven cobs, sauces, biscuits, toiletries, laundry powder and fabric softener, dishwasher tablets, cleaning tablets, loo rolls and kitchen rolls. And the odd bits for the freezer like chips, peas etc. But we don't have a massive freezer either so I won't be making any meals in advance, I'm just planning to send DH out for fresh things like milk and meat.
Definitely a good idea to stock up, we didn't last time and we were so unprepared!

Movicol, or some similar to tackle post birth constipation. I really can or recommend this enough.

hoopdeloop · 03/04/2018 08:44

Anything packety that you can use to make a quick lunch/tea for when you’re tired- like the batchelors pasta types, soup you like etc. I quite liked cereal bars as well for a quick snack (handy for 2am feeds!). We also got a few ‘ready meals’ but it was more like 2 chicken breasts in various marinades (got them in Asda but you get them elsewhere). They can be frozen and then defrosted for a quick but more substantial tea.

Also, any toiletries for yourself or things that might be more expensive when you’re on maternity leave (razor blades, toothbrush heads etc)

Paracetamol AND ibuprofen and maternity pads were the things I had to get my mum to bring supplies of in the early days.

Online shopping for everything after that.

Really great ideas here! Thank you all, I'm cracking on with a list Smile

Best thing about previous pregnancies living of takeaways for the first couple of weeks around visitors 🙊Then my mum made us meals too loved it xx

StandardLampski · 03/04/2018 09:24

Vanish. Both the stuff for clothes and carpet.Grin
Also, Calpol ( actually own brand equivalent) you will not need it immediately but will go through tonnes once teeting/ bugs stsrt and I hate not having any in , as it tends to be bedtime when you realise you don't have it and needs it now!

IHateToCashew · 03/04/2018 09:30

Oh! Another few.

Saline spray, I think snuffle baby make it. Sainsbury's do a sort of oblas oil you can use from birth. And an electric snot sucker will come in handy Grin all on the off chance LO gets a cold.

LeighaJ · 03/04/2018 09:35

I'm planning to stock up on canned goods and ready meals that don't require freezing or refrigeration since our fridge and freezer are rather small. Also our basic toiletries.

Sounds like I should add detergent to the list.

holycityzoo · 03/04/2018 09:45

Cake. For you and guestsGrin

constantflux · 03/04/2018 09:50

Entertainment, for those long haul feeding sessions on the sofa - good books, magazines, movies. Picking up a chapter of a good book made some of those late night sessions bearable, and kept me awake!

Lots of cheap big pants - the paper disposable ones are horrendous so I lived in cheap primark Bridget Joneses for a few weeks. Ditto pyjamas (oversized primark jobs, saved ruining anything decent.

Cold drinks - breastfeeding gave me an insatiable thirst so I got through pints of squash

DwangelaForever · 03/04/2018 10:12

Toilet roll! And easy to cook meals
