So.... went for a 4d scan yesterday at 30 weeks. Baby is measuring a week ahead apparently and predicted to be a 8lbs 11 baby which to me is HUGE. I know it isn't but to me it is haha. My DS was 7lbs exactly 6 days late and I am not the biggest person either size 10 5ft 4 weight 8st 3 when I got pregnant now 10 st 3.. just wanted to know anyone else's birth weight predictions and how wrong/right they were..... put my mind at ease xx

Dd estimated 7lb on a Wednesday. She was born the very next day weighing in at 8lb. Sorry Grin they can be a lb out either way though

Bear2014 · 02/04/2018 18:10

It can be way out, like 20% or more. I bet baby isn't that big. They were wrong with me too but the other way (sorry!) predicted 9lb3 but was actually 11lb1! He was clearly a monster, even my maternity clothes were too small and I couldn't move but they insisted I was exaggerating - ha!

Thinkpositive23 · 02/04/2018 18:13

Wow 11lb1!!! That's one healthy baba!

I don't think I can do it can I change my mind 😳 haha only joking

Scans are generally only accurate to +/- 500g and sometimes not even that accurate so I wouldn't worry too much. Generally our bodies are quite good at only making babies that are the right size for us.

lljkk · 02/04/2018 18:16

34 weeks gestation, DS was predicted almost 10 lbs; born 5 weeks later 6 lbs 8 oz.

YearOfYouRemember · 02/04/2018 18:17

A few weeks before he was born Predicted 10-11lbs baby. Three hours before he was born predicted 7+. He was 6lb 12.

Fidgety31 · 02/04/2018 20:51

I was told to expect an average baby and he was 10lb10oz

I’m short and size ten too 😂

twofertrouble · 02/04/2018 21:19

My first was 6lb 3oz at 39+2.
Just had baby 2 - 8lb 5oz - estimated at 8lb 11oz.
First birth was traumatic, ended with rotational forceps and me with a spinal in theatre.
The second birth couldn't have been easier (or quicker!) even with a baby 2lb heavier. Easier said than done but try not to worry, second babies are generally much easier to deliver!

TeaandHobnobs · 02/04/2018 21:24

I have no experience with predicted weights (other than knowing from others that they aren't that accurate) - but my first baby was 4lb11oz, and second was 9lb5oz... the second was the much easier birth! And I recovered very quickly.

Bigpizzalover · 02/04/2018 21:28

First predicted 8lbs - 39+6 when I had him and he was 5lb 13oz.

Second predicted 6-8lbs and was 8lb 11oz and she was so much easier to birth!

rabbitsandrhubarb · 02/04/2018 21:35

Can't remember predicted weights (or if they ever were predicted). DS was 8lb 10oz, DD 9lb 6oz and was much easier than DS.

himalayansalt · 02/04/2018 21:37

Why have you started two threads about this today? It's rather annoying.

KatyMac · 02/04/2018 21:39

Completely wrong
Due 17th at 'might scrape 7lbs' (Was never gonna happen may calcs put it at 31st of the month before based on when we had sex)
Arrived 21st 8lb 4oz and obviously over cooked (and had to be induced anyway)

Thistles24 · 02/04/2018 21:47

DS2 was predicted to be over 11lb. He was born 9lb 6oz, so still on the large side but not the whopper they said!

MoonFacesMum · 03/04/2018 05:00

I had two friends due within a few months of each other both estimated at around 8lbs. One was 10lbs and the other 5.5lbs.

With my second DC I got a growth scan due to emcs and 9.5lb first baby and was also told DC2 would be 8lbs. I asked the consultant if I should go for a vbac because DC2 would be smaller than DC1 and she pretty much said ‘Naa, the growth scans don’t really tell us anything.” I had an elective section. DC2 was 9.5lbs too.

Elllicam · 03/04/2018 05:13

Scans can be quite a lot out, DS3 was measured on a scan one afternoon and estimated to be about 7lb 3. He was born that evening at 9lb 4.

scrivette · 03/04/2018 05:47

DD was measured at just over 9 lb, she was born the next evening at 8lb 3oz.

Bufferingkisses · 03/04/2018 05:49

There is little to no correlation between baby size and ease of birthing so predicted or actual size mean little until you get into the real whoppers. Try not to let this worry you. Scans are so notoriously unreliable I don't really understand why they are still giving out predictions. Its a bit like reading your horoscope!

lljkk · 03/04/2018 08:06

Oh yeah, size is a funny one... friend popped out a 12 lb vaginally (no idea he was so big). Next baby was under 10 lbs & her shoulders got stuck!

Friend had kidney condition so lots of extra scans. Was induced b/c her baby was too small for gestation, under 6 lbs. Actually was about 7.5 lbs.

scrivette · 03/04/2018 08:33

Just to add, delivering my 9lb 6oz baby was easier than my 7lb 4oz skinny long one!

Thinkpositive23 · 03/04/2018 10:13

Wow alot of differences from what people have been told and alot of "bigger" babies these days maybe it's a change in time and bigger babas are the norm now.

Going try not to stress haha can't do anything about it can I haha x

The predictions were accurate in my case. I was told in all three pregnancies to expect large babies as I was always measuring at least 3 weeks above, likewise a growth scan in my first pregnancy showed him to weigh 8 pounds 6 oz at 34 weeks. He was born weighing 10 lbs. My smallest was 9 lbs 6 oz.

mindutopia · 03/04/2018 14:02

My first was 6lbs 9oz and my 2nd was 8lbs 6oz, which is bigger but definitely not BIG. Honestly, my birth with him was easier and faster, though both all natural home births. The recovery was much faster though with my bigger baby, probably because he was my 2nd. But totally wouldn’t stress as 8lbs 11oz really isn’t that big. I have a friend who had a home birth, totally natural, no tearing with an 11lb baby. You’ll be fine! Though scans can be off by two lbs so you might end up with a 6lber still.

Oysterbabe · 03/04/2018 14:28

DS was estimated over 9 and was 8lbs 1. His head circumference however was 98th centile. He still just popped out no problem, second babies often do.

Creatureofthenight · 03/04/2018 14:33

Had scan on a Monday, said baby just over 9lb. DD arrived on the Wednesday, 8 and a half lb. So they weren’t miles off...
