Telling family

I haven't told my parents yet that im.pregnant (14 weeks) as I just haven't seen them and want to tell them in person. Will be telling them on Wednesday this week when we go to visit for mum's birthday. We'll wrap up a baby related item and surprise them.

However my brothets and their wives will be there too. One brother knows already and is delighted for me and is excited to see mum's reaction. The other one I see much less and he doesn't know yet. I don't know if he and his wife are ttc. They had mentioned starting a family a couple of years ago but then there was no news after that so I guess they either decided not to or struggled conceiving. I just don't know and I'm not close enough with him to ask.

So my question is - do I mention it to him by text in advance? I might be worrying over nothing, but having been at the receiving end of baby bombs when I was ttc I know it hurts and is easier to take privately first before putting on a brave face in public. Of course I don't KNOW they're ttc and for all I know they might even be pg and waiting to share some good news! I just don't know.

What should I do? Am excited to tell family but scared of upsetting anyone.
Thanks.

Congratulations. Ultimately the decision is yours but if you’re that worried about upsetting your brother then tell him beforehand. At the end of the day, if they’re ttc but are having difficulties, it’s beyond anyone’s control so you shouldn’t feel bad for announcing your pregnancy to the family.

I struggled to conceive for 2 years and suprise announcements were the absolute worst! I'd have to excuse myself to go and cry in the toilet and try and pull it together. Knowing before hand made things a lot easier and having a quick, simple text would have saved me many many hours of emotional pain.

It's lovely you are thinking of others as the most amazing news to you can be utter hell for someone else. You're very considerate Smile

A quick text saying 'Hi bro, just wanted to let you know i'm going to surprise mum on Weds because me and husband are preggers. See you weds x'

Then they will know and able to be upset in private (if needed) if they aren't even trying, it's still kept a secret from your Mum so win / win either way!

Massive congratulations to you on your pregnancy!!!

Thank you. Good advice here. Have just sent him a text. His wife will be there too and it's more her I'm thinking about.
