Starting to think about my hospital bags. Would Mums recommend disposal pants or large cotton pants? Any particular recommendations?

It's completely up to you. I preferred just big knickers as they were comfy. I never used the disposable ones but I think if you used them you would be changing them many times throughout the day!!

ReversingSnail · 01/04/2018 20:42

Multipack of cotton full briefs from M&S.

SoupDragon · 01/04/2018 20:46

I would start with the disposable ones unless you can get cheaper normal ones. Being able to bin pad and pants in one go in the early days was helpful.

Essexgirlupnorth · 01/04/2018 20:47

Just bought a pack of black big pants from primark think they gave me disposable ones in hospital

ItWentInMyEye · 01/04/2018 20:48

Big black pants from primark or Asda

C0untDucku1a · 01/04/2018 20:50

LArge cotton pants. As cheap, possibly chaper than disposable and more
Comfy.

And then Yoga pants on top.

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 01/04/2018 20:51

Another vote for big pants, those disposable ones are horrible, so uncomfortable and tight, not what you want after giving birth.

Loosemoose28 · 01/04/2018 20:53

For first few days tenna lady pull ups then big knickers and maternity towels

Vinorosso74 · 01/04/2018 20:53

I found the disposable ones uncomfortable. Go for black cotton ones-I got some Primark ones.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/04/2018 20:54

I just bought huge, black pants from primark but haven't ever tried disposables so not sure what they're like.

notthatonethanks · 01/04/2018 20:57

I had some disposables in the very early days. They were good - I bought several sizes too big so they weren't uncomfortable.

After that just big pants for quite a few weeks, again at least one size up - maternity pads are huge.

It depends on how the birth goes and how much you bleed after, you might be totally fine after a week or so but best to err on the side of caution IMO.

EekThreek · 01/04/2018 21:03

I'm a size 14-16, bought size 18-20 disposable pants... they were tight! I had to do a very uncomfortable wriggle into them, which took time that my bleeding fanjo just did not have.

I vote a pack of cheap big pants in a couple of sizes bigger than normal. The pads stick better and they fit more comfortably than the disposables. And if you get them cheap enough, then destroy them, it's not the end of the world.

Lilonetwo · 01/04/2018 21:03

If you have a c section get these: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00LVWB910?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_yo_pop_mb_pd_t2&tag=mumsnetforum-21

They are super stretchy and soft and light. I couldn't bare anything more substantial.

If you have a VB, just regular full size pants in a couple sizes bigger than usual.

BertieBotts · 01/04/2018 21:05

Cheap ones you can throw away later. I got Asda ones.

Granny panties with massive thick waistbands are lovely actually.

Buxbaum · 01/04/2018 21:10

Black cotton full briefs from M&S. You need something that comes up high in case you have a section.

IggyAce · 01/04/2018 21:13

I gota pack of full briefs from matalan and used maternity pads for a few days.

yadayadayesokay · 01/04/2018 21:13

I found that the giant maternity pads didn’t even fit inside massive pants properly, so I ended up wearing DP’s boxers. Much more comfortable.

Oysterbabe · 01/04/2018 21:16

I got the massive Primark pants. DS is 3 months and I still wear them

Balancingact12 · 01/04/2018 21:17

I think I overdid the big cotton pants... I was clearing out a drawer of clothes and dh was helping, lifted a pair in shock (we have 3 children I still don’t know how it was a shock) and was like WHEN on earth did you wear these. Looking at them a year after birth you will wonder why you ever needed them, but in that first month post birth they’re the best Grin

BubblesAndSquarks · 01/04/2018 21:18

I got big standard black knickers, with giant pads (thick long maternity pads, more like incontence pads than some one the smaller maternity ones.)
I found the thickness and length made it a lot more bearable sitting down in the days after.

rotavixsucks · 01/04/2018 21:19

Another vote for M&S cotton, I bought 2 packs...one full briefs and one shorts and a size larger than normal.
9 months on and i'm still wearing them as they are so comfy :)

Cracklesfire · 01/04/2018 21:21

2 multipacks of black cotton pants from M&S - I wore them for about 3 months as I took a long time to heal post partum and they were really comfy.

MamaMilkMachine · 01/04/2018 21:21

Big black cotton ones here, used them for weeks after as well, the disposable ones felt like paper

Bytheseabythesea · 01/04/2018 21:22

M&S full briefs! I.now have about ten pairs and 6 weeks postpartum they are still an enormous (ha!) comfy pleasure to put on every morning. Can't imagine ever wearing anything else tbh (as I was telling DH this morning, much to his horror Grin)

bassackwards · 01/04/2018 21:32

In hindsight I wish I had packed Tena briefs or something like that in my hospital bag. I had zero bladder control after a catheter and lots of bleeding (sorry)!
