Restless legs

Has anyone else suffered from restless legs during their pregnancy???

I'm 31 weeks pregnant, and during my 2nd trimester I started getting restless legs every now and again before I fell to sleep. But now, whether it's just to have a nap in the afternoon or going to sleep in the evening it starts, and sometimes I'm still awake at 2-2:30am sat in the bath hoping that it will stop!!

Ive spoken to my midwife and was told "it's just something that can come with pregnancy" and
I've also tried magnesium supplements, drinking tonic water, going for walks throughout the day with my partner. But it keeps coming back.

I just wondered if anyone else has had this, and if you had any other tricks you could share? As I'm
willing to try anything as I'd like to fall to sleep without restless legs for once! Envy

I had it really bad with my third.

I drank tonic water - did nothing . Ate bananas and salt - nothing !

I used to lie down with my legs up the wall ! Also used a foot roller - helped a little bit

Hoping I don’t get it again this time

I've always had this but does seem to be worse in pregnancy, particularly when I'm really tired and uncomfortable. It really annoys my husband. Then when I try really hard to stay still it just gets worse. Haven't found a cure yet. I've tried drinking tonic water water, hot baths, swimming, long walks, nothing really cures it unfortunately

I've had it on and off in this pregnancy, mostly at night - it's so frustrating!

I found that cutting down on sugary stuff and caffeine helped. I also started running my legs under cold water from the shower for a few minutes right before I get into bed - sounds weird but it really helps. Tend to find I get it less so when I've had a quite active day with lots of walking too.

Hope that helps somehow!

Had this towards the end of my first pregnancy which was bad enough, but now I'm pregnant again and have it in my first trimester! No advice, just sharing the misery Sad

Thank you so much for replying guys!! It really means a lot, until I found this forum app I honestly felt like I was going crazy thinking I was the only one with this...

Will definitely try the cold water over the legs before I get into bed and see what happens!

I always have restless legs to some degree, but it's definitely worse during pregnancy.
I've tried:
Stretches
Magnesium supplements
Magnesium oil massage
Bananas
Tonic water
No caffeine
Exercise
None of them worked, although I know they do for some people

Only things that help me are feet in the air, cold feet (so running them under the cold tap as suggested above would help), and reading for ten minutes (no idea how this works but I think it's just distraction).

Tormented with restless legs this time around. 35weeks tmw and it's def getting worse as time goes on. Last nightvwas the worst ever, close to tears. Such a horrid sensation. And always worse at night.

Thankfully only had it a little bit in pregnancy but used to get it badly after long runs- I found sleeping in compression socks helped.

I posted about restless legs last week. My mother in law bought me a lush foot lotion. Its called pink peppermint. I use it on my legs before bed and while my legs still play up they are nowhere near as bad as thwy were. Maybe try something like this?

Compression knee high stockings have dramatically helped my restless legs. I got them on prescription from the gp due to swollen ankles and varicose veins.
Still get the feeling occasionally, but it's not unbearable and every night like it was!
