Ardo Calypso Double Plus Electric Breast Pump & TT Prep Machine Advice Please

Morning Smile

My daughter would like to BF but has some sensory issues & is also very introverted, so is worrying about if she will cope with feeding. She is trying to cover all angles, so I was wondering if anyone has used the Ardo Calypso Double Plus Electric Breast Pump? She's hoping that if she can express, at least the baby will still be getting her milk Smile

Just incase she's not successful, has anyone used the Tommee Tippee Prep Machine? They're very expensive 🙈 but may be worth their weight in gold!

TIA & wishing you all, a great Easter x

I ended up selling the Calypso in favour of my Medela Swing but I needed something portable. Lots of people love it.

That said, if your daughter is pregnant now I would recommend she doesn't buy anything yet. It's a lot of cash to spend based on possibilities that might not come to pass and shops and Amazon prime will still be there when she delivers. She can try BF in hospital - if she finds it tough from a sensory perspective the hospital should be able to lend her a "hospital grade" double pump and she can then arrange to rent/buy one if she wants to exclusively express (a hospital grade double pump makes exclusive expressing easier and faster). If she really doesn't get on with expressing either she can invest in a Perfect Prep. I've never formula fed but those who do are certainly enthusiastic about it. They're available everywhere and in the short term she could use readymade.

I intended on BF, but didn't buy a pump before DD was born. I wish I'd bought a cheapy hand operated pump to see how I'd got on with expressing.

Turned out DD had no interest in boob, so I moved to FF when we were still in hospital. I ordered a TT steam steriliser and Perfect Prep machine from my hospital bed, and they arrived a few days later.

I can honestly say the Perfect Prep is one of the best things I've ever bought. I'd recommend them to anyone who was considering FF.

I would've paid 4 times the price for the TT pp machine. Worth its weight in gold IMO

Thank you for your replies x

@QueenAravisOfArchenland my DD is 17+1 🎉 I'm happy to pay for the pump as a gift if she wants one. I fed all 4 of my DC (my youngest until she was 3.5yrs!) but I don't want my DD to feel pressured, my philosophy is happy mummy = happy baby Smile I had a Medela with my youngest, but this one had better reviews when I looked. It's worth a chat with her mw about borrowing one when she's in hospital - thanks Smile x

@dinosaurkisses thank you Smile She has bought an Aptamil new born starter pack for the hospital (comes with 6 bottles & tears pre-sterilised & ready to use) x

@TimesNewRoman thank you, I'm sold 👌😂 just unsure whether to buy brand new or second hand, as there are quite a few going for £15-£20 on the local for sale sites Smile

My daughter may end up having a section by GA, so even more reason that she may not be able to feed initially x

I got loaned an ardo calypso from the milk bank when I was donating. It was brilliant, but I responded well to the pump.

The thing I liked about it over the Medela, is that it's a closed system so no old milk getting in to the mechanism.

Pumping isn't nice though.
